We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LIVINRAP a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, livinrap thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am so happy being a creative. I love living unconventionally because anyone can know who I am by looking at the aspects of my life. I live ultra-me. My life experience has transformed into breaking out of the ordinary that exists all around us. One thing people don’t realize about being an artist is that most people you come into contact with will try to steer you away from making art (mostly out of good hearted concern or because they just don’t get it.) It’s a gift in itself because it makes you extremely resilient. Meanwhile, I come across people all the time who have rested an artist within themselves because they were too afraid to create. Sometimes I get confused who the crazy ones are. :-)

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is livinrap and I’m a music artist. The most important things in my life are God, my child, and music. I got into the music industry and rap discipline because I tried it once and couldn’t put it down since. I think that’s how love happens with anything.
I attended a design vocational program in high school and I think that’s part of the reason I’ve been comfortable living and creating unconventionally. I am a huge advocate for vocational education. Ive also ran my own businesses since graduating and I am very drawn to design, branding, atmosphere creation, and story telling.
What sets me apart is the depth I put into my rhymes and my openness to abstracts. The reason I love abstracts is because interpretation depends on the beauty of your mind instead of mine. It’s the teleportation of an image from my mind to yours, but you might reassemble it completely differently. Spoiler alert: YOUR mind is beautiful.
What i’m most proud of is my relentlessness to push everything and everybody out of the way who interferes with my vision.
A trick I picked up to stay on track is to check in with my highest self and ask what can be cut out in order to simplify my life and accomplish the things I really care about.
I am also a single parent to my daughter called Lumi whom is three years old and full of lightness. I adopted Lumi when she was 14 months. I wish there was a better word for adopt because God knows this child is my heart.
I have an intense lust for life element to my being and when I’m one with my nature, I catch butterflies on demand. <3
My music is very colorful, slappy, bassy, inviting, and dramatic. One thing I want potential fans to know about my work is that if you enjoy conversation, layers, and having your own visions despite the not-so-beautiful designs are us, I think you should come along for the journey.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is receiving new material to work out because it doesn’t really feel like it’s coming from me. It makes me feel ultra connected to life and super blessed.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think non-creatives may initially think my work is culture-inspired or that i’m just a pretty girl trying to get famous. What they wouldn’t know is that I haven’t spend a day in my entire life hoping to be famous, but given the circumstances of my passion it’s a side effect to what I want to do. I actually very specifically thinking to myself one night that I could do anything in the world so long as I DONT get famous. That is God’s humor.
Growing up I was ultra non conformist, family oriented and reserved. I think that’s part of the reason i’ve developed such a rich inner world that i’m now ready to paint out for you. Don’t trust the quiet ones. <3 #richgirlglobe
