We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olivia Roumel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olivia below.
Olivia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Probably my most recent project! I just released a five-song EP called “I Take a Picture (With My Whole Being)”. It’s my debut EP and consists of songs that are up to seven years old. It’s been a long and informative project for how I work and think as a creative director. You really have to be so many roles – the artist, the boss, the businessperson, probably more – and it’s constant growth. Putting these songs into their full form, with a full band, sparkly vocal layers, and studio polish, it feels like I’m honoring them fully. It’s very satisfying, especially with tunes that are so old.
“I Take a Picture…” is a collection of stories and moods exploring self-undoing, transformation, and celebration of life. I aim to paint unique sonic worlds and channel different aspects of my psyche – dreamy and tender, playful and fiery, the full range. That’s what being an artist is all about for me – expression.
I feel proud to have met so many firsts during this process. I am a stronger creative now thanks to it, and I have a beautiful piece of work to share that represents me. I’ve had these moments where I experience grief over old songs I know are great, and it’s very harmonizing as an artist to finally see their full potential. It allows me to focus on more present bodies of work.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Olivia “Liv” Roumel—a writer, singer, and multi‑instrumentalist who paints raw, ethereal stories on an intricate harmonic canvas. Rooted in Denver, Colorado, I draw much of my music from moments of introspection in nature, a sound I like to call “nature‑soul.”
Raised on vocal jazz and expressive lyricism, and shaped by a unique approach to keys and guitar, my music is a rule-bending fusion of R&B, soul, and singer‑songwriter influences. My goal is to immerse listeners in a sonic world that gives voice to the complexity and beauty we all hold inside.
While I’m not performing, recording, or doing social media marketing, I run a teaching business offering private voice lessons. My main goal is to continue sharing music through the ways I know best.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Support your local community of artists! Investing in art that’s right around you definitely helps the ecosystem thrive.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When someone understands your vision and reflects it back to you. I think so many artists feel misunderstood, and when we really feel that someone’s listening, it’s gold. At least for me. To know that something I created could potentially get someone to feel or think deeply.
