We recently connected with Olivia Orona and have shared our conversation below.
Olivia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Creating an inclusive workplace environment is something I hold close to my heart. With a background in corporate management, I’ve always strived to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere within my district. This effort extended not only to employees but also to my colleagues, as I believe in the importance of valuing everyone’s contributions, offering opportunities for personal growth, and nurturing a sense of belonging. Throughout my career, I’ve taken on roles where I’ve observed the damaging tendency to blame employees for their lack of success without introspection. Having personally experienced moments of exclusion and unfair treatment, I am determined to ensure that no one working under my leadership feels that way.
My advice for cultivating a more inclusive workplace is rooted in several key principles:
1. Accountability: Recognizing and taking responsibility for our actions and decisions is the first step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
2. Transparency: Being open and honest about the organization’s goals and progress in diversity and inclusion initiatives builds trust and fosters a culture of inclusivity.
3.Celebrating Diversity: Embracing different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives not only enriches the workplace but also strengthens the sense of belonging for all employees.
4. Training and Development: Providing opportunities for skill-building and personal growth demonstrates your commitment to their success. When you invest in your team, they, in turn, invest in your organization.
5. Empathy and Community Building: It’s important to empathize with your team members and understand their unique experiences and challenges. Building a sense of community where everyone feels valued and included creates a positive work environment.
6. Lead by Example: Be the change you want to see in your workplace. Model inclusive behavior and foster an environment where respect and dignity are at the forefront.
My belief is that a commitment to accountability, transparency, celebrating diversity, and investing in team development can lead to a workplace that not only thrives but also radiates inclusivity. The community w
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the founder and director of creativity at Tejanas in Media. My journey began when I left a corporate management career about a year and a half ago to fully immerse myself in photography. In doing so, I saw an opportunity to specialize and concentrate my efforts on collaborating with women-owned businesses.
At Tejanas in Media, our primary goal is to provide a platform for women to connect with other women-owned businesses. We offer a range of services, including product photography, service videography, headshots, and various other media services. Our focus is on enhancing our clients’ businesses through aesthetics and brand development.
What sets our company apart is our commitment to investing in our clients from the very beginning. We grow with them as they progress and expand. Their success is our success, and we believe in the power of collaboration and support in the business world.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I cultivated my social media audience by leveraging the power of video to establish a connection. Through video content, I shared not only my personality and sense of humor but also my vulnerability, allowing my audience to relate on a more personal level. I also use my platform to promote various initiatives and engage with my followers, encouraging them to actively participate in my projects and support my company. My biggest advice to build a social media presence is to get in front of the camera, be your brand!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a creative is the ability to bring joy to others through our creations, and by transforming their visions into reality.
