We recently connected with Olivia Howell and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Three years ago, after my divorce, I journaled about shifting the cultural narrative and celebrating big, brave, and bold life decisions. I wanted to help people take the overwhelm out of going through these big life transitions – especially when it came to getting the products you needed for your the new chapter of your life, as well as finding all of the experts you needed to help support you during the transition. This led me to found Fresh Starts Registry, the first and only platform for everything you need to start again. Fresh Starts Registry is the first ever registry supporting people through all of the brave decisions in life – for example, a breakup, a divorce, job changes, moving, living through grief, coming out, or stepping into your truth. We believe in shaking the shackles of shame to celebrate and honor the big, bold, and brave life decisions! Anyone going through a life change can build a registry or browse the guide of experts for free – and we never collect your data or info, as we know how vulnerable it is to go through a major life change. Our Fresh Starts Experts are vetted and safe, so you can build your hype team of supporters to empower you through the life change. We’re on a mission to change the world and empower people through their life changes, so that they can feel confident in their decision making and get the support they deserve!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Olivia, a single mother from Long Island! My early career began as a middle school Latin teacher, and when I had my sons, I transitioned into working for myself and launched a social media management agency. In the last 10 years, we’ve worked on a global scale with hundreds of companies, brands, and people to manage their social media and get their name into the world. After my own divorce, I realized that culturally we are accustomed to celebrating babies and weddings, but we do not celebrate the harder – or brave life changes, too! And those deserve to be celebrated because they are hard!! I decided to found Fresh Starts Registry to take the overwhelm out of the big life decisions. And, for our Fresh Starts Experts, we have a Fresh Starts Expert Community, where our Experts receive support in their social media, communications, business development and public relations. We’re here to support the Experts so that they can support their clients, too!

How’d you meet your business partner?

Well, I met my co-founder when she was born! She’s my sister. My co-founder, Genevieve Dreizen, and I have been building companies since we were 4 and 6 years old. Fun fact: our very first company was selling handmade cards when we were in elementary school, and we called it March Lion Inc. 30 years later, my sister came on board to my social media agency and we renamed the agency March Lion Media! And, she’s my co-founder for Fresh Starts Registry, as well. I am so grateful she believed in my ideas!

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

To get the initial capital for Fresh Starts Registry, we made a conscious effort to save as much from our social media management agency the prior year to make sure we could still pay ourselves as we started a new company. I also…sold my house and moved myself and my kids back in with my parents at my childhood home so that I could invest into the company!
