We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Olivia De Arment a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I came out of the womb a performer. For as long as I can remember, all I ever wanted was to entertain. As a kid, I couldn’t solve a math problem to save my life, but I was constantly writing songs, creating plays, and roping all the neighborhood kids into being part of my little productions. I’d direct with big ideas and a clear creative vision, but the adults around me often called me “bossy.” Looking back, I wish I could tell that little girl she wasn’t bossy—she was a leader in the making.
I spent 13 years as a competitive dancer, got inducted into the international Thespian society, won various youth awards in broadcast television and by high school, I was convinced I was going to be a star. But like so many others with big dreams, I was advised to take a safer path. I was told it was too risky, too far-fetched. And I listened. I lost my confidence, went to college, got a full-time job, and started climbing the corporate America ladder. But that desire to perform never left—it stayed tucked away, quietly burning in the background.
In 2023, I decided it was time to reevaluate what I truly wanted. I prayed about it, and then made the decision to return to the arts. I jumped into acting classes, updated my headshots, started auditioning, building my reel, writing music—and rediscovered how amazing it feels to dance again. In 2024, I began exploring modeling as well, something new and exciting.
Now, I’m more determined than ever to make up for lost time and become the woman my younger self would look up to with pride. Every day, I’m actively pursuing opportunities to grow, to create, and to entertain. This time, I’m doing it on my own terms—with joy, intention, and heart.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
What I think truly sets me apart is my determination. I’m relentless when it comes to chasing my goals—I don’t give up easily anymore, and I’m always willing to adapt. Whether I’m acting, dancing, singing, or modeling, I focus on what the moment calls for and how I can best serve the performance.
At the heart of everything I do is the audience. I always ask myself, What do they want to feel? What do they need to see in this scene? I believe great performers aren’t just talented—they’re emotionally intuitive and generous with their craft. I want people to be moved, entertained, and seen through my work.
Versatility is also a big part of who I am. I consider myself an artist in every sense. I act, I sing and write music, I dance, I model—but I’m also deeply interested in the creative process behind the scenes. I love cinematography and storytelling from the lens of a camera.
Right now, I’m developing a vlog called The Linen Bake. It’s still in its early stages, but I’ll be hosting and producing it myself. It’s a passion project that brings together everything I love—good food, gardening, travel, fitness, and wellness. I see it as another way to connect with people and share joy, beauty, and inspiration in everyday life.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest things I’ve had to unlearn is self-doubt. When you grow up hearing that your dreams are too unrealistic, it plants this seed of uncertainty—you start to question whether people are saying that because you’re not talented enough. That kind of messaging can really chip away at your confidence over time.
For me, it’s taken a lot of intentional self-growth to overcome that. I’ve had to actively remind myself: I am capable. I do have what it takes. I truly believe I walk with the favor of God, and that He is guiding every step I take. When something feels intimidating now, I try not to see it as a sign that I’m unqualified—but rather, that I’m stepping into new territory. It’s not fear of failure—it’s just unfamiliar ground. And that’s where growth happens.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is knowing that something you created truly resonated with someone. When someone tells you they were moved, inspired, or even found healing through your work—that’s everything. To know that your art made a difference, even in a small way, is the greatest reward.
