Alright, Olivia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

At one point in my life I was at a meaningful crossroads and I came across the famous travel quote, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

That quote gave me the courage to make a massive life change, and it was so meaningful to me that I created some artwork of a ship sailing free and got it tattooed on my arm. The tattoo artist chose blue for the color of my sails.

This philosophy of sailing untethered is also what led me to finally combine my life passions of traveling and writing, and pursue my dreams of being a travel blogger.

So I named my business Girl With Blue Sails because I want it to portray me and the message my tattoo symbolizes. I am constantly seeking new experiences and creating helpful travel content in hopes to inspire my readers to set sail on a journey of their own.

Olivia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m a travel blogger and content creator. I travel to new destinations and create guides and tips based on my own experiences. My content can be found on my website: girlwithbluesails.com, my Instagram page: @girlwithbluesails, and my freshly launched YouTube channel: @girlwithbluesails.

In my content, I love to showcase beautiful travel imagery along with practical, helpful travel planning information. Basically I create the guides and tips I wish I would’ve had when planning my trip.

I have a bachelors degree in creative writing, I’ve been traveling since I was born, and I’m a self-taught photographer. My gift of observation and passion for exploration keep me going, and my experience growing up in the corporate world has given me the skillset needed to turn it all into a business.

People that tend to follow my socials and subscribe to my blog are travel dreamers and trip planners. I love posting travel humor as well, and showing the real side of travel, to which anyone who has ever taken a stressful vacation can certainly relate.

My business is soon expanding to include long form video content and hosted group trips where I get to travel with my like minded, travel-obsessed audience. I welcome connections and collaborations with sustainable travel businesses, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?

To sustain my travel blogging & content creation business, I have many revenue streams. I gain passive income from hosting ad space on my website, I gain affiliate income from recommending products from participating websites like Amazon, I offer freelance writing services, host group trips for which I’m paid commission, I sell user generated content for brands to use in their marketing, and also participate in paid brand collaborations, where I use my socials to recommend travel products and destinations.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I feel like the travel blogging and content creation business constantly involves pivoting. When I started my business in 2020, knowing standard SEO tactics helped gain traffic to my blog, and my travel photography was growing my social following on Instagram. Since then, we’ve seen major enhancements in AI, which affects Google search engines and the way I receive my traffic, and we’ve seen the rise of short form video, which has made me an expert in videography and Instagram reels. Technology and social media will ever be evolving, and I’m determined to evolve right along with it.
