Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Balogh . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Olivia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Being a creative requires work! Yes, so does every job, but being a freelancer means coming up with new ideas, growing my business, building a portfolio, and learning how to balance time. Sometimes I do wonder what It would be like to have a normal 9-5 job behind a desk on a computer all day, but I would go crazy! I love being on my feet, working longer hours if needed, not always getting that 30 minute break, and the hustle that comes with it! I love to work hard and I know I’ll get where I want if I just keep going. Being a creative is not for the weak.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m so thankful to have fallen into the hair industry. I decided to go to beauty school straight out of high school during Covid time. I’ve been doing hair for 5 now and it’s only just begun. I specialize is coloring hair, vivid’s, naturals, lived in, the coloring world is endless. I definitely balance being a therapist at times and building relationships with my clients. I’ve been through a lot in 5 years, I’ve battled with difficult bosses and a tricky work environments. I’ve learned to push through but most importantly, not letting people walk all over you. I’ve worked with many celebrity clients but the most important thing for me is making everyone feel good no matter who you are. The beauty industry is beautiful because you get to make people truly feel beautiful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing for me about this industry is getting to know people for who they are, understanding different opinions, and making people feel their best. We all wake up some mornings and look in the mirror and have a hard time loving ourselves, but this industry is so special because you get to transform your image, express yourself in different ways and feel beautiful from the inside and out.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Many times in life everyone deals with a hard work environment, difficult people, and different goals. That’s life and these are lessons we learn. I have learned to put walls up and respect myself and my time. We all get to a red light sometimes and have pivots and that is normal. I am truly thankful for these hard lessons because everything is a learning curve and, I’ve learned to love myself and stand up for what I believe in. Every industry is hard and you meet difficult people everywhere in life, but these things only make you stronger.
