We recently connected with Oliver Oetterer and have shared our conversation below.
Oliver, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
We started Tap Truck Orlando in January of 2022 with the expectation that this would be a family business with my wife and son. It has really been awesome to be able to spend time together, especially with my 23 year old, as many parents can attest, at that age, they really don’t spend a lot of time with their parents. With our business we get to talk regularly, get to install knowledge to him, and of course prepare for an work our events. It’s truly been a blessing.
Oliver, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in sales for over 25 years and really wanted to do something for my family and myself so we decided to start TapTruck Orlando, We are a mobile bartending service that utilizes a 1960 Ford F-100 with 5 taps that serves beer and any other liquid concoction that you can think of. If we can tap it, we can serve it. Besides clients going bananas over seeing a vintage, restored 1960 panel truck, they are amazed that the beer and beverages comes directly out of the side of the truck. That and our willingness to go above and beyond to make our client’s events special is what truly sets us apart from any competition. We have 2 logoed bars and a logoed table that sit in front of the truck for serving purposes. We have catered events of over 2,000, and while there was a line, everyone got served and people actually enjoyed the wait since they could discuss and take pictures of ‘Big Red’, out TapTruck.
Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
We bought the business in January of 2022. It’s a licensing deal from the corporation. We bought it because we love to entertain, and this way we could bring out happiness, and chattiness to the masses. We love telling stories, and everyone wants to hear how we got the 9160 Ford F-100. The aquisition was pretty easy, just had to have our attorney review the contract, make some minor modifications, and pay the fees.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My son is our director of marketing. He’s focusing heavily on Instagram and always posts multiple pictures and captions of each even that we do. We have 100s of likes so far and our following is growing.
