We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olive (awlivv). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olive (awlivv) below.
Olive (awlivv), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have been able to earn a full-time living from my work! Actually, I’ve been living off of content creation solely since June 2021.
My Onlyfans (OF) journey started in 2020. I was working from home as an engineer (a job I had been doing for 4 years). I’d always joked, with my partner at the time, that I was going to start an OF because I loved taking kind of artsy lewd photos and interacting with folks online. And my partner was eventually like, you should just do it! With that encouragement, I decided to start, just for fun, a side hustle.
But because I had my engineering job, I knew I had to completely start over social media wise. So in June 2020, I started my twitter which I only told one internet friend about. From there, I just started to worked on growing that account – posting, making friends in the industry, etc. In late August 2020, with 600 followers on twitter, I started my OF. The first two months were as expected, side hustle money, a little tattoo fund, but that was fine by me. I KNEW I’d never blow up. This was for fun.
Then in Nov 2020, at the suggestion of a friend, I started a Tiktok, an app I had never considered using. On Nov 11, 2020, I made my first Tiktok – a lil video of me saying “I’m 25 and I don’t’ know how to make Tiktoks. Anways, here’s my butt”. I had 2 followers when I posted this, and the next day I woke up to 2000 followers. My Tiktok was “blowing up”, and my OF reflected this too. I’d tripled my sub count. This trend continued for a few weeks. My Tiktok ended up getting about 2 million views. Nov 2020 was the first month I made enough to live off of.
I was sure this trend would end but it didn’t. I kept making Tiktoks (mostly tattoo and pop punk/emo content), and my OF and socials kept growing. From Nov 2020 to May 2021, I made content and did engineering full time but I felt so over worked. Although I was afraid to quit engineering because “OF isn’t stable income”, I knew I had to try to make it stable, I loved making content. I didn’t want it to feel like a “side hustle”. I wanted it to be my life. So in May 2021, I requested 6 weeks off from work (unpaid) to try out OF full time. Four weeks later, I went into my office and quit my job and I haven’t looked back since. I now have a social media following of approx. 800k…like WHAT!!!!!!!
I feel like I just rambled a LOT so I’m going to leave it at that.. :)
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I already kind of covered how I got into this work with my last answer so I’m going to start with what kind of services I offer.
Primarily, I make adult content on Onlyfans (OF). For those that haven’t ever used the platform, it’s basically like subscription based social media. Folks subscribe to my page to see my content. Everyone’s OF is different but on mine, I post semi-explicit photos and videos to my feed almost daily. I also interact with subscribers (subs) almost daily. I reply to DMs and we just chat about whatever. This is usually not explicit, just general life stuff. I love it :)
Additionally, I make explicit videos (solo and with partners), that I send out to my subscribers (subs) as a message with a price attached. These videos my subs can pay to unlock and watch. I send these out 3-4 times a month. I also offer custom content where my subscribers can pay me to make special videos just for them.
This job also entails a lot of social media upkeep/promo. So in addition to OF, I consistently make content for and post/interact with people on social media. All said and done, I am typically making content or replying to folks for at least 5-6 hours a day Monday – Thursday.
I think what sets me apart from others is how interactive I am with followers and subscribers. I try to reply to all comments and messages every day. Also, I think mixing my sexy content with being goofy and a little unhinged helps. I’m a very awkward person so going with 100% sexy content feels uncomfy to me. I think people like the genuine-ness of just being a bit of a dweeb. Lastly, I think posting about music all the time sets me apart. I get a LOT of OF messages about bands and music :)
I’m most proud of creating a brand that feels like ME. When I post on socials or OF, I don’t have to pretend to be someone completely different. I’ve gathered a following that just loves silly weird me. That feels so nice.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think non-creatives might find it hard to believe/understand that making content is stressful and time consuming, and honestly, I get it. From the outside, content creation can look like it’s all fun.
But that’s literally what a content creator does, they make their lives/work look that way. In reality, content creation (at least for me), is always feeling like someone is waiting on you, wanting your time and attention. It can feel very weighty and draining at times. Additionally, with content creation, you CONSTANTLY have to be thinking of ideas for content. It leaves you feeling very scatterbrained most days.
It’s a very hard job to detach from because in theory, you could work every second of every day. There is always MORE you could do. More to post, more to reply to, etc.
But don’t get me wrong, I freakin’ love it. I just get very overwhelmed a lot.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly, no. I’m still of the mindset that this won’t be forever, that eventually I will fade into internet oblivion once people get bored of me. My friends tell me, I shouldn’t think that way but I like to expect the worst so I’m pleasantly surprised when the worst doesn’t happen.
So truly, I feel like I’m just riding a wave. I put things out into the world and hope that it makes the wave last a little longer. I guess that’s the goal, be able to do this as long as possible. This life I’m living is still so surreal to me.
