We were lucky to catch up with Olga Miliuta recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Olga , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

I always worked for different music companies in Europe and here in America as a singer and piano and voice teacher and actually i always was thinking it would be great to have my own company. My opinion about teaching process always was different than my companies owners.
If we are talking about music education i am sure every student needs personal training which responds their needs wishes and possibilities. Every person needs to build their own confidence with performing on the stage, or just growing as a personality by taking music classes, and learning every day new things growing as a human being.
Working for my previous companies I didn’t have an opportunity to work with students the way I work with them right now because we had only one way in education for every student and nothing else extra.
When I realized I cannot work this way anymore, I decided that I need to create my own music school. But I had no idea how to start because I was in a new country and it was Covid time… I didn’t really know how to start because I never consider myself as a business woman
But my personal slogan is “if you afraid to do something this is exactly what you need to do right now.”
In the very beginning I visited my first students at their houses, but it was very short period of time because people spread the word, and we got really good results with playing piano and singing
Also, I did a lot of volunteering work, helping people with their mental problems or physical problems by training them playing the piano or doing singing and breathing therapy lessons.
And in a very short period of time I started receiving a lot of calls about accepting people being my students and then I started to think that I need to do it as a real music companion and i need place for my lessons.
The first and simple thing I went to the clerk office and registered my company.
After I did very first step I got really good motivation to get my own building, my own studio.
In 6 months we finally found house with separated building for my studio.
Now we have everything we need: professional equipment for learning process and performances , big studio with professional light and grand piano for classic pianists
Every student found something unique for themselves taking our lessons
After all work I went through i am sure if you doing something with love and care about your people you will be successful

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I was born in the European family. My mother is Ukrainian. My father is Polish, my grandfather and grandmother are German and Polish My father and grandfather are military veterans. My mother is a pianist and teacher and my grandmother was a Doctor. Since I was born, I knew about discipline you need for practicing piano and achieving your goals.
Piano, playing or singing are need very strong discipline. You have to be very organized with your training process.
I always knew that I will be on stage and I always knew when I will get my knowledges I will try to help another people to get into music easier way than me.
Here in America i saw many people who were taking music lessons for dozen of years and they still couldn’t realize how to read music notes or sing without getting tired.
I started to share my personal techniques and secrets how to learn piano or get singing skills faster with them. And I started to get very good feedbacks from my students because they realized that playing piano or singing are not that hard and scary like it was before for them.
My students started to win music competitions in a different categories. People who were very unconfident started perform on the stage. Some students started to create their own music and made it it their job.
if you can ever imagine how grateful I am for that.
Because my student’s success is my double success. When I see people happy, I am double happy.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

Starting my actual business was really fun. I didn’t have money to invest in necessarily equipment. It was covid time and everyone was heated financially. I remember when my first client called me and set up an appointment for the piano lesson. I run into a music store and purchased digital piano. It was really funny because I spent all my savings i had for just one lesson.
But i am blessed. After that lesson i got more people who wanted to come over and get the knowledges.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I was pretty famous singer and teacher in my country. But at one moment, I decided that I need to create a family. And i got married and was taken into the United States. I never spoke about that, but my marriage went completely wrong way. Very bad abusive way. I wasn’t able to do anything related to the music: no singing teaching not communicate with people. It was prohibited for me. Let’s say all my previews life meant nothing anymore. After three years, I realized that I don’t need my life if I don’t have music, students, stage and audience in my life.
It was very scary to escape from that situation in a country where I didn’t know anything and anybody. I even didn’t speak English well. But American people supported me at that moment and I decided I need start over and help people the same they helped me. I went back to the music. I believe it’s my mission
