We were lucky to catch up with Olga Hockin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Olga, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
“La Maison” means “The Home” in French, and that’s exactly what I envisioned when creating La Maison Pilates. I wanted it to be more than just a place to work out—I wanted to build a space where people feel truly comfortable and at home. It’s a studio where movement meets meaning, and where community comes first. I love seeing the connections being made—everyone chatting before and after class, and friendships forming naturally. It’s been so rewarding to welcome new faces and build relationships. I’ve already made so many amazing friends through this journey!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Olga Hockin, and I’m the founder of La Maison Pilates. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over five years now. I started out teaching group fitness classes, mostly high-intensity interval training. Over time I started incorporating Pilates classes into my own fitness routine and fell in love it with it, which is what eventually inspired me to take a leap of faith and open my own Pilates studio. Throughout all the different places I’ve coached, one thing has always stood out to me as the most meaningful part of the job—building genuine connections with my clients. I absolutely love getting to know the people I work with, watching their progress, celebrating their wins, and supporting them through their fitness journey. For me, that’s what being a fitness instructor is all about!

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My business partner is actually my husband! We met over nine years ago at work and have been married for seven. He’s always had a strong business sense—he’s owned and operated several dental practices—so when I discovered my passion for Pilates, he was the one who encouraged me to open my own studio. From helping oversee the construction process to handling the paperwork and forms, he has been the biggest help through it all!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think one of the best ways to grow a client base these days is definitely through social media. It’s such a powerful tool—not just for visibility, but also for building a brand identity and connecting with potential clients in a more personal and authentic way. Our studio’s Instagram is a little different from a lot of other Pilates pages out there. Instead of only posting workouts or promotions, we focus more on lifestyle content—things like wellness tips, daily routines, behind-the-scenes stuff, trendy aesthetic photos, and just little moments that reflect the vibe of our community. That kind of content really draws people in. It helps us stand out, get more eyes on the page, grow our following, and turn those followers into clients. People want to be part of something that looks and feels good, and we try to reflect that through our feed.
