We were lucky to catch up with Olena Klovatskiy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Olena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
In my honest opinion there are three mandatory rules you have to follow in order to be successful. My absolute number one is to believe in what you are doing. Even if the whole world is telling you’re wrong. Even if the circumstances are pushing you away from your path. Even if there is not a single person on your side. Hold on to your dream and do whatever it takes to make it come true.
Number two is to be patient and consistent. It never comes easy. It takes one step at a time. Day by day and so on. You just can’t afford to lose your faith. The best impression of it is this. Imagine a solid wall: as high and wide as you can see. But you must go through it. So you start breaking through with your bare hands. With every inch in you become stronger. You do that for a long period of time and one day you find yourself tired and disappointed. You decide to try other place, hoping that the wall is thinner there. You will never know that it could take just one more kick to break free at where you were. So, keep trying and it will pay off!
And last but not least- luck. Just a small pinch – that’s all you need!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Long before starting my floral business I was and still am a certified Baller teacher. I am originally from Ukraine where almost every little girl want to be a ballerina). I didn’t become one, but I became a Ballet teacher. Naturally, I project the dancing skills to my arrangements. That is why my shop is called Dancing Daisy, by the way. At first glance it seems like there is nothing uncommon between these two. But art is art and I find my ways to implement ballet moves in my arrangements. That is why they are different. I would probably be doing much better (financially wise) if I’d to adhere to existing trends in floral designs. But that’s who I am and that’s how I feel. My business is not only about money. I’m a small local business. Unlike those huge national wide companies I’m totally exposed to the people I know, to my neighbors, my frequent customers. I’m absolutely responsible for what I do and how I do it. With all that said, my way in business isn’t the easiest one but surely is the most exiting!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Oh, there are so many stories like that I don’t even know where to start). Born, raised and developed as a professional in one country and being forced out of it by overwhelming circumstances is a huge pivot in an one’s life. Me and my family had to go through this and start all over again in the US. But the challenge was excepted! I’m absolutely sure that a willing person will find the ways under any circumstances.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Absolutely! My cofounder and my business partner is my husband- Alec. We’’ve been together for 26 years now. As to me the family is the best business model there is. Ability to share the duties, willing to take the responsibility, time management, public relations – all of these are the essential parts of any family, as well as any business entity. With all the trust we built over those years doing business together is a smooth and delightful journey.
