We recently connected with Tee Morris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tee, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
When you say to people “I’m a paranormal investigator…” there are (on average) two reactions. One reaction is genuine interest and enthusiasm for what we do in the field. The other reaction, though, is the more common one people think you do what Zac Bagans, Sam & Colby, and some of the more sensational in this field do. We at OSI try very hard to showcase the different between paranormal investigators (Jason Hawes, Paranormal Quest, Amy’s Crypt) and paranormal entertainers (Bagans, Sam & Colby, Twin Paranormal, etc.). Our focus is on the history and on the stories of what it is we are investigating. And while we are more about investigation and research, OSI also believes that the process can be highly entertaining.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The origins of OSI can be best described as such: It all started with a video game. Phil Rossi contacted Tee Morris during the pandemic lockdown and invited him to join in on a brand new video game that had just been released to the public: PHASMOPHOBIA from Kinetic Games. The two had so much fun, they made it a weekly livestream on Twitch with other friends, and the diversion was a much-welcomed distraction during the COVID lockdown. Once restrictions loosened and vaccinations were made available, Phil approached Tee with the idea of trying out Phasmophobia for real. Through his paranormal podcast, Don’t Turn Around, Phil had found a location that was introducing people to paranormal investigation. From this one night at the Belle Grove Plantation of Fredericksburg, Virginia, the two set off to launch OSI and their YouTube series, Old Spirits.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of Old Spirits is making a connection between the history of a location and the phenomenon that is occurring there. A good example of this is when we were investigating the Candy Factory Arts Center in Historic Downtown Manassas, Virginia. During our preliminary and public investigations, we kept receiving through various names the name “Edwin.” Following the investigation, we discovered in the location’s history was a tragic automobile accident close to the factory. One of the lives lost was a young man named Edwin. Being able to draw connections like that offers a dose of reality in our investigations of the supernatural.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our mission at OSI is to offer an educational as well as a personal approach to the fantastic and the unexplained. This means we approach every space with a sense of respect, something many paranormal entertainers quickly sidestep in order to get to the sensational. We believe to better understand the paranormal means understanding what exactly is happening in a space because, sometimes, it is not supernatural. It could be something very much man-made or easily explained away; but by approaching a location with a critical eye and an open mind, OSI offers a fresh approach to the paranormal.
