We recently connected with Oksana the Legacy Coach and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Oksana, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Years ago, my mother was unjustly laid off from her job of 15+ years. It broke my heart to see the woman who raised me laid off with no back up plan. So, I decided to help her figure out what she loved to do and start her own business. By the time I was done, I had created a brand for her without realizing it!
In helping her, I discovered a gift that I didn’t know I possessed. It sparked a fire in me to help more women in the same way; to take their dreams and make them into a profitable reality. I pursued this gift, improved my skills and eventually took on more clients as a freelancer. Finally, after working with several women in various industries, learning several lessons, and improving my own brand, I launched my company Legacy Lifestyle Enterprises in January 2022!
Now that I am a wife and mother myself, I want leave a legacy that lets my children know they can accomplish any dream. I want the working mom who’s tired of building someone else’s dream to know that she can build the life she wants and have more time for her kids. I want the stay at home mom looking for financial independence to be able to start a home business and still raise her children.
That’s what Legacy Lifestyle Enterprises is about, giving women a way to create the life they want through effective and profitable branding. A lifestyle that allows them to fulfill purpose and obtain their ideal of success on their own terms. This is what our company calls the legacy lifestyle.
Oksana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a branding agency, we aim to become a one-stop-shop for all of our clients’ branding needs. Currently, we develop and design brands, we also provide branded website design, brand photography & videography services. Once our clients have solidified their brand, the next step is developing content (professional photography and videography services) and then website design.
Our vision is to expand the company and partner with other women-owned businesses to provide a wider range of services including: business start up consulting, marketing, grant writing, production, recording, publishing, printing, events and more! We would like to own an office building and convert it into our main headquarters where we will provide all of these services and more for our clients. We desire to be known in Orlando as the #1 place to go for all branding and content creation needs.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly, the most effective source of new clients for me has been referrals. I modeled my business to focus on making the process convenient and personal for each client so they have a positive experience. It’s not enough to just provide a service. You have to give each client a great experience with you. You have to remain professional and consistent. You have to honor your word and deliver what you promised. Customer experience/process is something I can say I have learned to excel at. The experience clients have with my business (from the first impression of my website to the very last meeting) causes them to feel comfortable referring me to others. As we know, word of mouth is the most effective form of marketing. I have also found clients through marketing but at least 80% of my business has been referrals and returning clients. Treat people well, be trust worthy, care about your client’s experience, be very clear about what’s agreed on in your contract so there’s no room for confusion. If people can trust you with their business, they’ll have no problem referring you to others.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a woman of color, I’ve experienced discrimination, unfair pay in the workforce (compared to male counterparts), and other things that made certain aspects of my journey difficult but each experience made me stronger, more determined and focused on building a better life for myself and others. As a business owner I’ve been blessed to only have a couple of difficult incidents with clients that I had to work through but those experiences challenged me to also take an honest look at myself so I could improve my process and customer experience.
Many urban communities don’t have access to a lot of financial literacy, business or economic courses/programs that teach us how to be entrepreneurs. Everything I’ve learned I had to seek out. It made me more disciplined but I do wish I had a business mentor that could have helped me avoid certain mistakes early on.
That’s another reason why I strive to be that resource for women who desire to be business owners. I can help them avoid some of the mistakes I made during the learning curve. One of the ways I do that is through The Boss Collective, a network that myself and my TBC partner, Bianca Belabre, have started to empower and educate women in business. To us, the word boss means: Believe , Obtain, Support, Succeed. That’s what we help each other to do.
