We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful OH.Tae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with OH.Tae below.
OH.Tae, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first dollar I ever earned as a creative was in January of 2020 from BMI music. I had performed across many open mics and showcases prior to the pandemic in my hometown of San Antonio starting in March of 2019. I had only earned $2.72 (1 song performed at an open mic that quarter), but from there it was in the $100’s every quarter after that. In doing so, each performance helped me to develop my individual stage presence, and then added on other streams to supplement my income as a creative.

OH.Tae, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! My artist name is OH.Tae, and I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and entrepreneur born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Singing is my first true love and passion – I’ve sung in choirs since grade school, but started to create and release music professionally in 2018 once I found my own sound. I currently offer services to sing and write for others through platforms like Fiverr, SongFinch and Songlorious, while navigating my personal career in management, and running my e-commerce business on Amazon. What I feel sets me apart from others is my drive and determination to be the best version of myself, leading with love through trials and tribulations and finding joy in the small things – making whatever I create or do the best it can be! From all the fore mentioned above, I’m most proud of coming out of my shell, and speaking/walking in my truth as a black woman unapologetically. I want clients, fans and followers to know that although I’m feel like a phenomenal woman, I’m human and also go through the ebbs and flows of life. We all have something unique in us that is the fiber of our being, I’m choosing to tap into mine and thrive in my own right. I love and appreciate every single one of you that has joined me along the journey, and will continue to do the best I can!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
In the end, my main goal is to liberate my family and myself from the shackles of a traditional 9-5 to allow us to live out life creatively without financial restrictions. I want people that look and think like me to see that we can achieve whatever we put our minds to, as long as we put in the work to do so.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn what it meant to operate in perfection. Growing up, I was taught in various schools that you strive to be perfect, or what you have is unfinished and not good enough for a grade. Along my journey of life into early adulthood, I carried that with me and it hindered my action to release music – if it wasn’t what I though was perfect, it wasn’t complete and therefore not to be released until it was. I was in this vicious cycle for a couple of years, using various distractions to cover up what I was actually feeling. Although I still have tendencies to criticize my work, I encourage myself and others to embrace the flaws – chalking it up to how it makes me unique.
