We were lucky to catch up with OG supreme Mage recently and have shared our conversation below.
OG supreme , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
The first time I ever ran across magic the gathering was at the Mission Valley Mall when I was 12 for my birthday. Back then the popular thing to do was to trade Pokémon.. I went to the store called wizards of the Coast I will go there to pick up Pokémon cards. there will be people in the back playing magic the gathering I would watch them, but I didn’t know what was going on. I wish someone was like hey do you know how to play the game? Let me show you the ropes because I would’ve started that day..

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Back in the middle of Covid some of the Game Stop’s were closing in my neighborhood after work I went to one and they were having an 80% off sale on everything. I knew there was a chance there might not be nothing there, but I was hoping that I can buy some new anime figurines for the low. when I got inside all the shelves look like skeletons, there was nothing there. Everything was just empty. I was like dam I missed it. I walked around the store to make sure everything was gone, and when I got to the counter, I asked the girl. If they happen to have any Funko pops in the back, she replied, no everything is gone but when I turned around directly behind me, there was a small shelf filled with magic the gathering stuff and it was all 80% off booster packs game nights bundles, random Precons an I bought it all i spent about 130 bucks went back home introduced to Game to my friends and their we have it. I’m a wizard now.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The way that I built my Fanbase is I made skits that I thought was funny an kept doing it no matter how low my audience was. I knew it would take work an it would be slow. The type of fanbase I wanted was long term. I want ppl that like me for being me. Another big thing I did was post a lot of stories so ppl can see the love I had for mtg on a daily. If you ask me I believe I was successful bc I did get those long term ppl an a lot of them ended up being friends an some I consider family. Consistency was key though. The grind can not stop you really have to be determined. everything that I did, I made it fun so I didn’t feel like a grind too much.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love being a recognizable face in the community of MTG! I like when people recognize me. I like when I know I made ppl laugh. The fact that ppl enjoy my humor an love for the game just feels good. I did a panel for comic con this year an loved it. It’s things like that that keep me going.
