We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Odra Mendoza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Odra, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I have learned that discipline is the fundamental pillar to achieve any goal in life. Without it, it’s easy to get carried away by inertia or distractions. Discipline has taught me to establish routines and habits that, although sometimes difficult to maintain, are essential to constantly move towards my goals. It is discipline that allows me to keep going even when motivation disappears, because I know that I will not always be inspired, but I can always choose to be disciplined.
Consistency is the perfect complement to discipline. While discipline helps me stay on the right path, consistency ensures that I keep walking, day after day, no matter how slow or fast I go. I have found that small efforts made consistently have immense power. Consistency has taught me that great achievements do not come overnight, but are the result of the accumulation of small actions carried out regularly. Without consistency, the seeds I plant with discipline would not have time to grow and bear fruit.
Focus is what brings all of this together and allows me to effectively move toward success. Without a clear focus, it’s easy to scatter my energy in too many directions, losing sight of what really matters. I have learned to set priorities and keep my attention on them, blocking out distractions and keeping my eyes on the goal. Focus gives me the clarity necessary to align my actions with my long-term goals, ensuring that both discipline and perseverance lead to the success I want to achieve. With discipline, perseverance and focus, I have been able to transform my dreams into tangible realities and build a life that truly satisfies me.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
“The 5 AM Club” has been an invaluable source of inspiration to strengthen and improve my own business. This book showed me the power of starting the day with a clear purpose and how the first few hours of the morning can be decisive for success. By adopting the routine of getting up at 5 AM, I found that I had a quiet, distraction-free space of time to focus on my priorities. This habit allowed me to plan my day in advance, work on important projects without interruptions, and most importantly, cultivate a growth mindset that has been key to moving my business forward.
One of the most powerful aspects of the book is how it highlights the importance of taking advantage of that early time for personal and professional development. I have used those hours to read, meditate, and set clear goals, which has allowed me to maintain a constant focus on what really matters for my business. Additionally, this morning ritual has given me a competitive advantage, as I start the day with energy, motivation, and a clear direction toward my goals. Over time, I have seen how this simple change has positively impacted the productivity and growth of my business.
For those who want to apply the teachings of “The 5 AM Club” in their own endeavors, here are three key tips: First, establish a morning routine that allows you to focus on your goals before the workday begins; This is your time to work on what is most important to you. Second, use the first hours of the day to invest in your personal development, whether through reading, exercise or meditation; This will strengthen your mind and body to face the challenges of the day. Third, plan your day the night before and use the early morning hours to review and adjust your plan, making sure you are aligned with your long-term goals. These habits will not only help you improve your business, but they will also allow you to live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have found that being authentic and telling my own story on social media is one of the most powerful strategies for increasing my business’ clientele. In a world saturated with information and competition, authenticity has allowed me to differentiate myself and genuinely connect with my audience. By sharing my personal story, my values, and the challenges I have overcome, I make people relate to and trust me, which is essential for building lasting relationships. Authenticity not only attracts more customers, but also creates a loyal community that values what I offer.
Telling my story on social media has also helped me humanize my brand. People don’t just want to buy a product or service, they are looking for an emotional connection, and my story is what allows them to see beyond the business and meet the person behind it. By being transparent about my motivations, failures, and successes, I can show that, like them, I am someone who is in a constant process of growth. This not only makes me more approachable, but it also inspires others, increasing their loyalty and willingness to recommend my business to their friends and family.
Finally, being authentic on social media has allowed me to attract the right clients, those who share my values and are aligned with my vision. By being myself and telling my story, I naturally filter out people who are not the target audience of my business, allowing me to focus on those who will truly appreciate and benefit from what I offer. This approach not only increases the quality of my interactions, but also improves the conversion rate as I attract a more engaged audience willing to become customers. At the end of the day, being authentic and sharing my story has been key to the growth and success of my business.
