Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Octavius Luke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Octavius, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew that I wanted to pursue something with my creativity when I was working at Lids and I used to make custom hats to wear and people would offer to buy them off my head. That moment made me feel appreciated in a different way since my creative ideas were being seen and valued.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I do a little bit of everything. I own a clothing brand, Ill Reference. Ido the creative direction for that which includes designs for the clothing, photography, studio set-ups etc. I also provide these services for other clients as well. I just love seeing a whole project through and I love the entire process of doing so. There’s a certain level of satisfaction that I get from helping others see their visions come to life too.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think what some non-creatives don’t understand is the amount of time and energy it takes for a creative to share their art with the world. But since so many people are used to having an instant gratification mindset they expect creatives to rush their process to please them.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is when I see someone wearing the merchandise that I created. I literally see my brand on someone else at least once a day and I still experience the same amazing feeling as if it were the first time.
