Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Octavia Brewster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Octavia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

Hi, My name is Octavia Brewster, Owner and Head Coach of Brewster Dance Company here in Mobile, Al. I’ve always loved to dance. I’ve been dancing since I was about 3 years old. I noticed that there was a shortage of dance companies here that actually took the time out to help young ladies develop the skill. I would always see people hold tryouts and then girls are disappointed if they don’t make it. So, I stepped out on faith after much prayer and discussion with my husband I started Brewster Dance Company. It’s been 8 years and counting and I haven’t turned back yet.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We are one of the most versatile dance companies here. We offer so much more than just dancing in a parade during Mardi Gras. We are year round.!! We compete in dance competitions, private events, school coronations, .community service events, as well as recital .

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

I honestly just want to be able to say that I made a positive impact in a child’s life. Being there for a child is more fulfilling than anything. Showing them family like values and sisterhood is something that can never be replaced.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being a dancer is seeing how your work moves other people. I love to see the reactions to the crowd when the team performs. And the icing on the cake is seeing the team’s reaction after they just performed and danced their hearts out.
