We were lucky to catch up with Octavia Barnes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Octavia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time i knew i wanted to pursue being a Loc Artist professionally in back in 2015 when i gave birth to my baby girl. Even though i had already had my son having a daughter was just different its like i gave birth to my purpose as well. I felt i was supposed to do something amazing with my life and set a foundation for my children so i was guided back to my first love of doing hair.

Octavia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello my name is Octavia Barnes and i am the owner of The Fairyy Loc Mutha and also OG Sea Moss. I specialize in helping people start their loc journey and coach them through wholistic health with my Handmade Sea Moss infused products.
It all started when i was 11 years old and i taught myself the skill of braiding, not knowing that 20 years later i would pick this skill back up and create a successful brand. After giving birth to my second child i went through a period of unhappiness, i experienced a significant change on a mental, emotional, spiritual , and financial level. I started to look towards God for guidance on my next move, See i knew i was given a gift or talent that i could use to make an income to provide for my children so i ask God to show me. I was led to creating beautiful temporary and permanent loc styles for both men and women of all ethnicities.
Connecting with my clients over these last 7 years i started to notice patterns in issues that most of my clients were experiencing such as dry hair, hair loss, Low energy, and dry skin. This led me to create my brand OG Sea Moss. OG Sea Moss has products for people that are dealing with issues of dry hair and hair loss try our Sea Moss Hair Hydration spray and our Sea Moss infused hair oil. Low energy try our amazing Sea Moss Gels. Dry skin our Sea Moss body butters are sure to have your skin feeling super moisturized.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part is seeing everything manifested into the physical. I can remember 4 years ago having the goal of creating my own products on my vision board. Confirmation that i can achieve ANYTHING by first thinking it, writing it down, and giving energy and intentions to my creations.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
In my opinion non creatives or left brain dominant people would struggle with understanding the journey of a creative, because we mainly move off of intuition and we can be unpredictable.
