Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to O’chante Lafellé. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
O’chante, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Serena Williams wisely acknowledged, “I’m thankful for my family, friends, and fans for all of their support,” recognizing the significance of a strong support system. Taylor Swift echoed this sentiment when she emphasized, “In a relationship, each person should support the other; they should lift each other up.”
Seeking support from friends and family in your endeavors is indeed imperative for personal and professional growth. Their encouragement and endorsement not only motivate you but also provide a solid foundation upon which you can hone your craft and gain invaluable experience in your field.
One crucial aspect to consider when seeking support is the presentation of your venture or project. It is prudent to approach potential supporters with a well-conceived idea that showcases your dedication, craftsmanship, and work ethic. A substantial and well-prepared proposal or project demonstrates your commitment and makes it easier for people to rally behind your cause.
It is also important not to establish rigid boundaries on how you expect someone to support you positively. Whether it’s a simple repost, a comment, word-of-mouth promotion, or referrals, each form of support can contribute significantly to your success. The beauty of a support network lies in its diversity, as different individuals may offer different kinds of assistance that collectively bolster your journey.
A compelling anecdote that underscores the power of support is my experience with a celebrity client. When they admired my styling for a magazine photoshoot, it led to an outpouring of support from their team, publicist, and peers within the fashion industry. This support not only enhanced my credibility but also opened doors to new opportunities and collaborations.
In conclusion, the words of Serena Williams and Taylor Swift remind us that support from loved ones and fans can be a driving force in achieving our goals. By embracing this support, presenting our ideas thoughtfully, and appreciating the diverse ways people can contribute, we create a nurturing environment that fosters personal and professional growth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am O’Chante Lafellé, a Fashion Stylist originally hailing from Sacramento, CA, and currently based in Los Angeles. With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry, my journey began with a profound appreciation for fashion, instilled in me by my family. This deep-seated passion ignited a drive to learn self-discipline, resulting in a relentless work ethic that continues to yield rewarding outcomes.
The remarkable aspect of discipline is that it manifests as a foundation for success, often returning in unexpected ways that align with one’s overarching mission and goals. In my case, this journey has been guided by a specialization in Couture and luxury Ready-to-Wear fashion, with an unwavering focus on the interplay of fabrics and cuts.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed brands such as Sandro Paris, Denzel Parris, and Givenchy Paris, primarily within the realm of high fashion editorial. My initial foray into the industry occurred alongside modeling agencies in Sacramento and the Bay Area, where I honed my artistic vision. Notably, my styling approach has graced the covers of esteemed publications like Grazia, L’Officiel, Composure, and more, resonating with a global audience.
What truly sets me apart in this dynamic field is the fusion of my rich heritage and extensive experience. Beyond being an Image Consultant and Fashion Stylist, I am deeply immersed in the realms of public relations and social media management. This multifaceted background positions me as a uniquely valuable asset, capable of offering comprehensive support to elevate your brand.
Most notably, I take immense pride in my approach to this industry. I do not merely view my work as a hobby, but rather as a craft that can be monetized, a valuable business that provides a sought-after luxury service. I am proud that my clients recognize the importance of having a fashion stylist who delivers not only in a timely manner but also with unwavering commitment to quality. They see me as a popular demand for their brand and image, an understanding that I hold in the highest regard.
If you are seeking to infuse sophistication into your image and expand your brand’s reach, I invite you to consider a collaboration, where together, we can craft fashion enchantment that leaves a lasting impression.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I embarked on my journey in the fashion and styling industry, I recognized the importance of building a solid foundation, which required the acquisition of necessary resources. At the outset, I faced the challenge of funding various aspects of my work, including wardrobe, accessories, and essential equipment such as a fashion kit comprising thread, needles, clothing racks, and a steamer. During this phase, I often had to cover these expenses myself in order to develop my skills and portfolio.
As my career progressed, I made the transition from Sacramento to Los Angeles, entering a larger and more competitive creative landscape. In this new environment, collaboration became paramount. I understood the value of partnering with like-minded individuals who shared my vision and were equally dedicated to building impressive portfolios. This collaborative approach allowed me to work with photographers, models, and studios, albeit initially at a cost. By spearheading projects and conceptualizing unique ideas, I took on the responsibility of securing the necessary resources and financing these endeavors.
Over time, these self-initiated projects proved to be pivotal in my journey. They not only helped me refine my skills and build a substantial portfolio but also showcased my ability to execute creative concepts effectively. As I gained experience and credibility within the industry, clients began to trust my vision and expertise. This transitioned into a phase where clients recognized the value of my services and were willing to compensate me accordingly, including allocating budgets for projects.
In essence, my initial investment of personal funds and the collaborative efforts undertaken to create a strong portfolio laid the groundwork for my current position in the industry. It is a testament to the importance of perseverance, dedication, and resourcefulness in the early stages of a fashion styling career, which has ultimately led to the successful establishment of my business.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist or creative is seeing your ideas come to life in a tangible form. Whether it’s artwork, design, or fashion choices, witnessing your vision become a reality is deeply satisfying. Additionally, as a fashion stylist, I take particular joy in seeing my fashion choices enhance my clients’ self-expression and storytelling through their clothing.
