Oblayon Pushboy, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
When it comes to my mom and dad, even though they had the differences, I think both of them did a very excellent job raising me making sure that I have morals and values and that I can be able to be relatable to people also be able to take a accountability if I’m wrong And be able to stand up for myself if I have too, they teach me that life is gonna be up-and-down, there is never ever gonna be too high of a high and low of low, and also treat everybody with the most respect does not matter the age or where they come from .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey everybody, my name is Oblayon Pushboy nyemah Aka Obie Soul I’m a Artist from the Minneapolis Minnesota area born in Liberia immigrated to Minnesota 2007 I am representing the westside Boyz. A little background on my upper in as I stated in the beginning that I am Liberian, and yes, for anybody that have a question I was raised there for about six years. Everything that I saw during six years was good. The culture was vibrant. The food was fantastic. My family was big into church, so always been a part of my upbringing, as long as a could remember, so with that, That how my love of music came about I was in the choir grown-up, so was my mom and my auntie with some of my uncles, who played the instrumentals so we have all those talented people around so my love of music was expanded even more. I had different options of music rhythms , so I was just fascinated with it. Fast forward moving to the United States, first It was a whole different type of scenery good and bad just like how everything is in life just had to work through it and make a best of it, but one thing I do gotta say is that I did fall in love with the culture, the music, and everything else that came with it. When I first came, we lived in Georgetown Bloomington, and it was some of the best days that I could remember that’s a place where everything went down and, it just made me who I am as a person today and I’m so appreciative of everything that I have and don’t have, secondly, sadly to say we moved out of Georgetown and I would next destination was Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and I got to say when I first moved there it just reminded me of back home the food was good. The community was good that’s where I really started building lifelong friends people to this day, I can call and talk to and text, they check up on me and I cannot say enough about Brooklyn Park as a whole is one of the best community around Minnesota and I’m glad to say that I’m from there, so just got to get my little shout out, going into high school was kind of tough, but I’m glad to say that I went to Osseo high school, one of the best high school around. They’re welcome me with open arms from Day One. Every staff member were very kind treated me with respect always came to my need when I needed it and just all around professional, taught me everything that I know, they’re important our friendship, the important of communication and important of togetherness so I’m also very proud to say that I am alumni or one of the best schools around in Minnesota hands-down. Last but not least fast-forward me and my cousins put together this group called the Westside Boyz, We just wanted to be able to represent our culture. Bring light to our country with positive vibes and energy and bring a different flavor to the Afro culture and we have been able to Implement our self and ways that different artist recognize our flow, our temple and our music and give us recognition everywhere we go, there so much talent from where I’m from. We just all have too bring light so all of that so the world can know that we also too have talent and music and whatever else. With that being said I hope you guys toon into more. We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That you can’t always be too comfortable with yourself or like where you at in life you just always just have to keep a level ahead and keep working hard until is your turn just always be humble and give Grace a little backstory to that is that when you’re younger you just make Difficult and bad decisions and it don’t lead you to anywhere but trouble so I have to learn how to be patient and be humble because that situation definitely humble me .
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Just me being myself I think that my energy and aura is on match and it’s infectious so everybody loves to be around me I give up I’ll good vibe. I also know how to hold my conversations and I think that gets people attention if you keep a conversation going.
