Obi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

I have embarked on a journey the past couple of years photographing amazing breast cancer warriors around the world and this is the most meaningful project I have ever done to date. Capturing images showing the amazing beauty , strength and courage of these women despite their circumstance has not only given them a new look and perspective of themselves but also inspired others on the same journey.

It has certainly given my life an added purpose seeing these women love themselves even more.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am musician, artist and photographer Obisoulstar and though I consider myself a citizen of the world, I’m based out of Chicago. As a musician, being on stage gives me the greatest release and I feel my most liberated self, photography has given me a different perspective on the world and I have traveled far and wide for amazing shots. When it comes to portraits ,I love capturing the pure essence of my subject, the more creative I’m allowed to be, the more spectacular.

Painting has been my grounding stone and is my first love, I opened my own gallery ELECTRIQSOUL HIDEOUT STUDIOS back in 2021 and talk about full circle…I’m able to host acoustic events, shoot portraits and display/paint in my own space. The vibrancy, mood, detail and perspective of all by works are just a few things that set me apart from my peers and because of the passion that is behind it all, my clients keep coming back.

One of the things I’m most proud of lately is the breast cancer coffee table book I have been working on for the past 3 years. This will be a photographic book showcasing the beauty , strength and grace (to say the least) of breast cancer warriors nationally and international. It has been a huge undertaking, yet so rewarding to share the images with the women and seeing them light up and loving themselves even more.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

The only goal and mission driving my creative is to do the things that make me happy and sustain myself through it. The life of a creative is not and easy one and not necessarily the most financialy rewarding… at least right off the bat. it truly take for us to know ourselves, trust in our abilities and have a “forward ever, backwards never’ kind of attitude. Easier said that done but not mission impossible. I have chosen to live with no regret and tap into my forever thing, and because of that, I work my way around all the obstacles.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Blessed are those who can create something from nothing. It starts with a dream or an idea in your head, then you work on creating it and bringing it to a tangible form, then it can be presented/ obtained by consumers. How amazing is that?! It is so rewarding to say “yes , I did that, I created that”. We as creatives have so much vision , so many forms of expressing and bring so much substance to an otherwise boring existence.
