We recently connected with Obed Padilla and have shared our conversation below.
Obed, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I’ve been working in the industry full time for about 5 years. It’s a grind but I can’t see myself doing anything else. I booked my first gig in 2016 playing lead guitar, came back from tour and started learning how to make beats and then producing records. It led to me putting out my own music and now I do a little bit of everything.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Producing records for yourself and then producing for other people are two completely different mindsets. I enjoy making/working on other peoples music just because I’m not biased thinking about my “sound.” I’m free to add/create sounds that I might not use in my own songs. I’m working with a few smaller artists and always am down to make something for someone new.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was dead broke, making and selling beats, and literally living from beat to beat. After awhile things just started to click and i’m where i’m at today. Don’t quit…you might have to pivot or make some changes but that’s only people who “make it” are the ones that persisted.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish i had started watching tutorials earlier on Youtube. You can learn so much from other people and watch them as they work. Youtube University.
