We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Obafemii “Obie” Hawk. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Obafemii “Obie” below.
Obafemii “Obie”, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
What did my parents do right? As a 30th birthday present for my dad birthing me on his birthday would be a start. I feel that my parents raised me right, in the sense that I was not a troubled kid. I grew up when to college, became a working man, a father, and all while pursuing my goals. Any endeavor that I started, created, or promoted they were right there to be my top promoters. I am grateful to have my folks. I am honored to have them as my parents. I thank God everyday for the love that He gave them to give to me and my sibling. I am humbled by their sacrificing, with allows my to be a great parent as well. So what did they do right? Everything a parent is supposed to do right,
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Neither is living life right. The road taken to be an independent artist is just as rough as starting a clothing line. When marketing/promoting with your own capital can be a bit challenging. I am an international christian recording artist that goes by the name “Obie One B.A.” I have traveled the world inspiring others through music and have released said music on all platforms. I also created a clothing line called “Pray Brand” to remind everyone that now is the time to Pray. Please dont put it off, because people need you prayers today.
On this journey, I have also found out that true success is being blessed with another day to make something amazing happen. My advice to the world is always live your truth. Walk your own path, pursue your goals, never give up and pray.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2005, my bestfriend and I had just released our first studio album digitally. Prior to this we released underground albums, but this one was different. FreekieTwinnz Ent released “Back On The Grind”. The subtitle was These tracks lead to a change. Life sure was changing. We never had to opportunity to really promote this album, because God was calling us to a different path. Later that year we changed our name (since it wasn’t appropriate for the route we were going.) We went from talking about women and money to talking about God. At this time we pivoted to the name Obie & Markiss and revamped the previous album and released “God is Doing Something, Get wit It”.
As my life was changing so was my music. So after that we both made solo projects under Obie One B.A. and King Markiss B.A. we are still bestfriends and still inspiring the world together. Some pivots need to happen for God to take you where He wants you to go.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have the ability to create and write impactful music. I spit bars, but also tell stories that can motivate someone else. How I stated was being at every open mic, every showcase, every event to share the gift that God give me. From there people started to request me. There is still millions of people that never heard of me or my music and God willing I wont stop until they do.
