We recently connected with Oak Morse and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Oak , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When it comes to my admiration for words, I would say somewhere between seeing John Singleton’s Poetic Justice and immersing myself in R&B and hip-hop music at an early age, I developed an affinity for language. When I can have people experience that same love for music, the expressive power of words, and the deep connection, I feel a sense of satisfaction. I have carried this enthusiasm with me since I can remember. From Brandy’s “Never Say Never” to Martin Lawrence’s “Don’t You Know No Good” to Jean Valentine’s “Door in the Mountain,” are a few of the many pieces that ignite my passion for beautiful words, by writing and witnessing the effects of its transformative power. All these experiences paved the way for the establishment of my custom poetry writing business, Ink Motifs, where I craft the ideal gift, poetry canvases, for you or your loved ones, ensuring it is a present they would cherish for a lifetime and can pass it on to future generations. This design is perfect for events such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, funerals or memorials, retirements, business mottos, baby showers, and graduations; work that is very personal to people and is not frequently seen.
Oak , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In a nutshell, I have a strong publication record, and a recipient of multiple fellowships, a creative writer instructor, and an award-winning poet. I have a unique poetic voice inspired by music, and I am not hesitant to investigate the demanding and strong emotional aspects of life. Often, my art puts music above meaning so that it may aurally, somatically, and phonetically deeply connect with listeners as well as readers. What sets me apart is that, even in cases where readers are not conscious of the craftwork in the customary poem, they undergo a musical experience that makes them feel good regardless of its content, and form on the canvas. This is a value that I pride myself on which makes the gift all more memorable, appealing, and worth constant revisiting. These perfect gifts can be ordered on www.oakmorse.com
How did you build your audience on social media?
I build my audience on Instagram and Facebook using my poetry, focusing on creating relatable, emotionally resonant poems, consistently posting them across platforms, engaging with my audience through comments and discussions, and utilizing visuals like imagery or video readings. I actively promote my work through relevant hashtags and poetry communities; essentially, leverage the power of poetry to connect with people on a deeper level and foster a loyal following. I am sure to stay true to my style and share what fulfills me, because in turn my audience will be fulfilled. This work can be found IG:@Oak_morse and FB: Oak.Morse
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to learn is everything cannot fit in one day. The curse is trying to accomplish a lot; the gift is many successes; the sacrifice is my health at times. In pursuit of fulfilling work for my clients, I work arduously to ensure first-class satisfaction with my products. In light of this, I found that the body is overwhelmed by anxiety, tension, and sleep loss. It took me 35 years to learn that I wouldn’t see any fruits of labor six feet under. To reduce a lot of stressors, I practice restraint like a newfound religion. Now I am in a place of peace and producing incredible work for my clients with a sense of balance.
