Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to O.T. Ashton . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
O.T., appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I do sometimes wonder what it would actually be like to have a regular job.
But not for very long ….
In my line of work there is no regular hours ,no regular schedule, and no promises of another gig. We creatives work all times of the day and any day necessary to accommodate the needs of our clients . I love finding solutions to challenges, that come up during these projects.
I surround myself with great artist and craftsman and bring them
Together as our Crew ! We love what we do
O.T., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Those of you who don’t know me should know a few things about my path . As a teenager a was always involved with local bands, I was lucky enough to own a video camera , which my wonderful mother gifted me to help me figure out what I was going to do with my life. I started filming local bands, and making music videos for them. eventually one of the bands got picked up by a record label in San Francisco. The record company then called me to oversee the video department for the record label like a dream come true. I found myself in the middle of the recording industry , as well as on the forefront of digital media. Working with executives from EA sports to create a new way to provide artist with revenue stream . We created website portals to other worlds for these artists that we represented.. I started producing and directing music videos for the next 2 1/2 years. then went independent and created a company called Ashton Media with my brother and my wife. Had a successful run in Silicon Valley for a while. Fast forward to Los Angeles, California to where I became an Art Director/Production Designer for a company created by a few of my friends. We did mostly Still Photography (abc, cbs, fox,Disney, etc). Lucky enough to work with a group of people at a company called ArtWorks Hollywood.
Most recently moved to Phoenix Arizona . staying involved with the film and commercial industry. I have created a niche for myself as a production designer as well as an art Director and I am currently building a company called ArtWorksPhoenix, which provides support to other production designers and art directors. and providing them transportation, prop options, as well as space and locations.
With that being said, I find myself back into the local music scene reconnecting with my original passionate music. As ArtWorks, Phoenix grows, and evolves into a community for artists to thrive and prosper with all their crafts and skills.
I flow with creativity.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
What we need to do as a society to support artists and creatives is to go out and see their work go listen to music go to galleries, go out to festivals go do stuff together with other people. Gather together and celebrate each other.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe that part of my mission / drive is the freedom to stay creative as well as to see what synergy is created with other people and to be open to new things
you know you really have to always be able to let go of what you did before you got a try new stuff you got to be uncomfortable .
Creating a community of artists that are able to be comfortable in what they’re doing creates better art that is my passion
