Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nyteerah Clay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nyteerah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
YOU! It takes you to be successful, you have to put you, your time, your energy, your soul, your sweat, your tears, patience and GOD into what you love to do the most. You can only take you where you want to be nobody or anything else. My GOD had to sit me down for me to realize it was me getting in the way of my success. I was doing everything wrong when it came to my business, i wasn’t taking the time to push my craft, or to learn about what it take to run a successful business, i was scared to promote myself and to network with others. I was doing makeup because it made me money here and there. But once i locked in and i knew what i wanted my life to be everything switched. I stayed focus with a written plan, i enrolled myself in cosmetology school and i haven’t stopped pushing myself since. I’m practicing more, I’m learning more, I’m patient, i want to be successful and I’m going to be just that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nyteerah Clay and I’m the founder and CEO of Official Shades Of Brown LLC. I found my love for makeup back in 2014. One day i randomly got up and said i want to do makeup. I downloaded YouTube and stared watching makeup tutorials, one of my favorites at the time was Ms.AaliyahJay, after learning from her videos, i self taught myself along the way while grew a massive clientele through out the years. I started and founded my business February 12th 2018. I’m currently being educated at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, where I’ll be earning my cosmetology, aesthetician and teaching license. I’m currently located in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, always willing to travel for out of state opportunities. For my clients i provide everything under the beauty umbrella. I have my own cosmetic line called Shades Of Brown we sell makeup bags, eyeshadow palette, neon single eyeshadows, lip liners and lip gloss, eyelashes and makeup touch up kits. Services i provide are, eyebrow threading, eye brown tent, hair styling, natural hair care, full makeup glam, 1:1 makeup classes and wedding party. What set me apart from other is that i don’t just do my craft because i know how to do it, i take my time and study each individual skin, facial structure with tones, undertones and color to make sure they’re getting exactly what they asked for. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to creating the perfect color a client. I want everyone to know that, even though we mastered our craft we are still learn everyday hour and every second of the day. I specialize in natural care for hair, nails, skin and full body. Your body is your temple. Skin is important, your skin is all you have take care of it. Exfoliating with cold water is a must. Official Shades Of Brown is a small growing business, that welcomes all colors all genders and all race.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When i first thought I’d Shades Of Brown i was in a relationship with a guy that was a narcissist, a manipulator and an opportunist. I told him about what i wanted to do and all of my ideas to get there. He told me not to do it because everyone does makeup, why don’t you be a teacher like my mom and sister, that’s not what i wanted to do but i still tried it anyway. Everytime i brought up anything about makeup he would shoot all of my dreams down, to the point i felt uncomfortable telling him anything about doing makeup and starting a makeup business, he was so mean to me. I thought the person i was dating for almost three years had my back but no. When an opportunity came for him he left me, ran off to Atlanta used another female for her housing, and got her pregnant. What he did built Shades of brown, that hurt and pain built the women i am today. Never let a man take you from where god is taking you. You are in charge of your life and what you want your life to be. Never let anyone alter where you want to go in life
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
