We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nylah Blanks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Nylah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

Unknownbeautycare came from me not having friends and always being alone. Also from me doing hair but people didn’t know I did hair nor new me. I made the name up while I was doing lipgloss, lipstick, lip oils but never use the name. So I use it for my hair business now!! I came up this my ideas watching YouTube and other people have they own business and I wanted one too.im very creative and can really do anything if I want to so I made money off of what I decided to do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m Nylah, I’m 15, I own one whole business but three if you break it down (hair, lipgloss/oil/scrubs,bracelets). All my lip products are hand made , so are my bracelets, they both are sold from me.
I learned a how to do hair when I was very young but it’s always ended up being something I enjoyed. No really do hair how I do, only because everybody is different and uses different ways to do hair. I love the way I do hair and what I use and my client do to. I did lipgloss and bracelets to show others i am very creative in my own way. I’m still young but everything I do and make brings me lots of joy especially when others come or buy from me. I wanted to seek and make lipgloss after watching some YouTube videos and other family members having there own business , I had support so I did just that it make money off of it. Now with the bracelets I bought the bracelets making things for me for the summer so I could have something to do but I mind wanted me to sell them to see if people would buy so I did and they sold very fast. In all this is how and why I started my businesses.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of new client are my client showing off what they got from me or the hair style I did on them to family, friends, strangers , then them giving the other person my information so they are able to contact me.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I lesson I have unlearn was that family shouldn’t have to pay you or be on your timing. I have I few family members who love getting there hair done but want me to be on there timing and don’t want to pay me but will go to somebody else and pay them with no problem. They took avenge of me and had to stop because it was making me hate what I loved the most. Most time the people they went to charge twice as my prices but they didn’t want to pay me so I let them go.
