We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nyla Bishop . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nyla below.
Nyla , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project that I worked on what my “look at the mess i made”, which was a music video/short film inspired by the artist loveleo. Usually I either PA or Co-Direct a lot of the projects I worked on, but for “look at the mess i made” I directed it, I edited, and I produced it. Everything was all done by me, and that’s why I think that project was the most meaningful. I had completely creative freedom.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nyla Bishop and honestly I’ve been into the film industry ever since I was really young. I would take my iPad with me everywhere and make little movies and as I got older I discovered that what I was doing wasn’t just a little hobby, but something I could turn into a career. I currently own my own production company, nbx productions, and offer video, editing, and photography services.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist or creative is the ability to express yourself authentically and connect with others on a deep emotional level through your work. Creating something that resonates with people and leaves a lasting impact can be incredibly fulfilling.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think some non-creatives might struggle to understand the constant drive to create, the need for solitude and introspection, and the emotional investment in one’s work. The highs and lows of the creative process, from moments of inspiration to periods of self-doubt, can be challenging to grasp for those who haven’t experienced it firsthand. Here’s some tips that for those who do struggle with self doubt that comes with the creative process. Understand that creativity is a process with ups and downs. Embrace both the moments of inspiration and the challenges as part of your growth as an artist. Surround yourself with fellow creatives, mentors, or friends who understand the creative process and can offer support and encouragement during difficult times. Take care of your physical and mental well-being by getting enough rest, engaging in activities that rejuvenate you, and seeking professional help if needed. Break down your creative projects into smaller, achievable goals. Celebrate your progress along the way, no matter how small. Be open to constructive criticism and feedback from others. Use it as an opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. Don’t be afraid to try new techniques or explore unfamiliar territory in your work. Creativity thrives on experimentation and pushing boundaries. Remember why you’re pursuing your creative endeavors in the first place. Stay connected to your passion and let it drive you forward, even during challenging times.
