We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nykia Breon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nykia below.
Alright, Nykia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first real client was back in college for a graduation. I say “real client” because it was my first client ever who booked again (which I was so excited and nervous about). Shoutout to you Synera! She really jump started KKB Faces being an actual business that I could grow beyond it just being a hobby at the time.
I originally did her makeup for a gala, and she liked it enough to book a second time. That honestly was the trust and support I needed to realize I could be doing something here. I’m glad I ran with it. & thankful for the growth because looking back at my old work now. Honey! I appreciate yall.

Nykia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
KKB Faces is an umbrella of beauty services created to make women and men feel radiant from the inside out. I offer and specialize in soft glam makeup, brow styling and body waxing. I take pride in creating unique experiences for my clients and giving them a safe space to feel, talk, vent, be pampered.
KKB Faces started originally as KKB Makeup Artistry and has since evolved now that I’m a licensed esthetician in South and North Carolina. The main thing I’d like my clients and readers to know is that I am truly passionate about self-care and my business and my goal is to enhance that level of self care or day of glam for anyone that sits in my chair.
I really don’t know where I’d be without my passion for the beauty industry and that’s what keeps my drive going. There has been plenty of moments where I could have given up on trying to be an entrepreneur such as my breast cancer journey or personal financial struggles but the people that truly support my craft always remind me of my gift. For that I am forever grateful and won’t stop until KKB travels outside the Carolinas leading to household names.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Branding & God. Personal branding and within my business stamped the name KKB since college. I think it also helped that my degree focused on the study of integrated marketing. Once “KKB” became a name that’s honestly all you saw on my social media and how I introduced myself in spaces.
I always have to credit God, every time. Anytime I was aligned in places that allowed me to meet amazing people in the industry and have great opportunities, I credit it all to Jeremiah 29:11.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A major lesson I had to unlearn was how much comparing yourself can stunt your growth. In the beginning I would always get so caught up in comparing my work to other artist that were years ahead of me in the industry. This made me afraid to post my content. I was definitely my biggest critic, nitpicking what I did have the courage to post.
It took some time, but I had to realize we all have a specific journey and you never know what the next person had to do or give up to be where they are. I’m grateful for my story and my gift, it’s what makes me the artist you see today.
