We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nygel Simons. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nygel below.
Nygel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a creative professionally. I knew that I wanted to be a creative within the fashion industry since high school, I just didn’t know how I was going to go about achieving it. But the way in which I’ve made my presence known by sharing my fashion archive online is on-brand given my love for style, aesthetic and social media since those days.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nygel Simons. I am a Stylist and Fashion Archivist. I’ve gained my popularity online as a fashion archivist sharing many never-before-seen moments from my archive of vintage magazines on my socials as well as adding additional context to particular fashion moments, for example I was the person who identified the iconic Spring 2003 Trosman-Churba dress that was worn in Jay-Z’s Excuse Me Miss video.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What driving me is my passion for fashion and an elevated lifestyle. I want to make an impact on the world by way of fashion and creative projects. I feel like this is what I was born to do.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
So far, it’s seeing the impact I’ve had on people from simply sharing images online. I’ve built a community online that appreciates the things that I post, and I’ve gotten the attention of people I would’ve never imagined. I receive emails from college students saying that my page is the highlight of their day, I’ve been recognized in person at work. Creatives that I respect have told me that my content is a source of inspiration for their work, so seeing the impact I’m having is most rewarding definitely.
