Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nydell Nalls. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nydell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Great question. You know, I appreciate every project I’ve been apart of. In some way they all have molded me in preparation for the next project. Nonetheless, I’m obviously going to have to go with Antwan. When you’re constantly working at something it’s hard to see the end goal at times. So, when I landed the role as Antwan it was like a confirmation in my eyes. Not only was it my first lead role but it was the perfect role for me because I saw so many elements of myself in the character. Auditions and new characters are constantly rolling in now, which is amazing. However, I’ve turned down or refrained from submitting to certain projects if I received the script and it doesn’t align with the career package I’m trying to develop. I think that’s why my first project was special because it felt like it was made for me. Currently, I’m working on new projects. I’ve shot 2 episodes with TV One and a commercial on the way, which I think is airing during football season but don’t quote me! I’m just grateful because these are all steps in the right direction like a domino effect.
Nydell , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Becoming an actor has been an interesting journey. You know, they say that there’s no blueprint to becoming a successful actor. At this stage of the game I completely understand it. Embarking on this journey has taught me alot of things. You have to be fearless, you have to be resilient and you have to have tough skin. At first I just wanted to be on set and be apart of projects even if I was just sitting in the back of the room. Now, I’m aiming higher. My resume is adding up nicely but it takes time. It’s a hustle you know. I make it my business everyday to watch interviews, do research and practice my craft. Joining workshops and networking is key. I feel 2 steps closer everyday just because I’m putting in the work.
Recently, I feel like I’m in a transitional period. I’m very proud of how the journey is unfolding, you know? I always tell people it’s not easy but I make it look easy. I think the confirmations has come from being involved in so many different projects in my short time living in Atlanta, GA. I pretty much see the same faces or competition if you want to put it like that, which tells me I’m doing something right. I think my goal is just to maximize my craft and really just put on for my city and everyone who believes in me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love this question. For me, the reward is giving myself and other’s a sense of hope. There’s a lot of people that I speak with and we share our life experiences from all different spectrums. Acting can be challenging especially when you are a beginner. However, it comes with admiration because you’re basically a risk taker to so many people. That’s what it’s all about to me. All I’ve ever wanted to do was inspire. I want people to act on ideas and not just let them be ideas, you get it? Challenge yourself. Challenge societal norms because you never know what is on the other side of that journey. It’s all about believing in yourself and believing good things can happen to you.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Being yourself will get you in rooms you would never imagine. That’s all it is. I go places as myself. I don’t change how I talk. I don’t dim my light. I’m simply just me and what that does is gives people the opportunity to decide if you are their “cup of tea” or not. It’s all about energy. What’s for you will always be for you. I will never forget Robi Reed telling me that at an audition in NJ. It stuck with me. That’s pretty much how I’ve created a platform for myself. Authenticity goes a long way. Everyday I’m constantly growing and finding new ways to attract more people. Being open and knowing how to market yourself is important. Utilize every social media platform. Promote yourself and don’t wait for other’s to promote you!
