We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nycole Hutchens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nycole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.

My defining moment in my career came when I realized that my work in the esthetics industry never felt like a job. It was the moment I saw the genuine joy and gratitude on my first client’s face after receiving a skincare treatment, knowing that I had made a positive impact on their well-being. This experience inspired me to write my first book, dedicated to helping others in the esthetics industry, and that’s when I truly understood the profound sense of purpose and fulfillment that my career could bring.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I was born and raised in the sunny state of California, but my path eventually led me to Houston four years ago. Since my early years, I had a deep passion for the beauty industry. My initial foray into this world began in media, where I spent six years as a beauty correspondent for prominent urban outlets, including Hollywood Unlocked, News with Attitude, Buzz TV, and more. This role allowed me to immerse myself in the beauty landscape and share insights with a wide audience.

As I continued to explore the beauty realm, my work was recognized by skincare brands, who approached me to conduct skincare reviews. It was during this time that I began to experiment with different products and techniques, and in doing so, I started receiving numerous compliments on the condition of my own skin. These positive responses served as a catalyst for my decision to return to school and obtain my esthetic license.

Now, as a licensed esthetician with my own brand Melynated Muse Esthetics, I offer a range of skincare products and services. I am dedicated to enhancing the beauty and confidence of my clients. My services include personalized skincare treatments, consultations, and guidance on maintaining healthy, radiant skin. I specialize in helping my clients address specific skin concerns and create effective skincare routines that cater to their unique needs.

What sets me apart from others in the industry is my multifaceted experience. I’ve been both a beauty correspondent and an esthetician, which provides me with a comprehensive understanding of the beauty world. My media background gives me the ability to effectively communicate and educate my clients about skincare, and my hands-on experience as an esthetician ensures that I can deliver results-driven treatments and solutions. I’m not just selling products or services; I’m here to empower my clients to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

My reputation in my field has been built on several key factors. First and foremost, it’s my unwavering consistency since day one in this industry. Whether as a beauty correspondent or an esthetician, I’ve always strived to maintain a high standard of quality and dedication to my work.

Passion is another cornerstone of my reputation. My genuine love for the beauty industry fuels my drive to continually learn, adapt, and deliver the best results for my clients. This passion is evident in the care and attention I put into every service and recommendation I provide.

Being results-driven has also played a significant role in building my reputation. I focus on tangible outcomes and the actual improvement of my clients’ skin, which has led to satisfied customers and positive word-of-mouth referrals.

One distinctive aspect that sets me apart is my refusal to prioritize vanity metrics when promoting my services. Instead, I emphasize the genuine value and effectiveness of what I offer. This approach ensures that my clients trust my recommendations and rely on my expertise, ultimately strengthening my reputation in the field.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?

Passion! Passion! Passion! I cannot stress this enough.

You can teach a skill-set you can’t teach passion. Hence why I was hired in a day spa immediately upon graduating. I’ve been blessed in that regard. To work in a field utilizing my educational degrees. Even when I was a media-correspondent. When I graduated with my Bachelors in Journalism, my first job upon graduating was at the Entertainment news outlet TMZ!

There’s something to be said about my track record when it comes to that.

Knowledge can get you through the door but passion is what keeps your there.

Anyone pursuing the field of Esthetics must be passionate about it. It shows in your work, how you show up to work and your willingness to continue learning.
