Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nuria Muro Gio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nuria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media. I enjoy connecting with others when I post my art but also something simple as instagram stories help me relax and have fun. And I think that’s important: to show people there is a real person behind the art.

Nuria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Nuria Muro Gio, I’m a peruvian illustrator and graphic designer. I mostly work on editorial illustration, specially for children’s books and advertising. Right now I’m exploring UX/UI design, as my goal is to combine those skills with my drawing.
One of my strenghts is providing the clients with creative solutions very fast. Being quick at producing art is one of the things I’m the most proud of.
In the past few years I’ve been working with multiple editorials that care about uplifting the voices of minorities, like Innuit and latin communities. I’ve also done Formula 1 works, the most important one for me being Red Bull Racing as I’m a big fan of their drivers and the sport in general.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
For editorial illustration having an agent really helps you get in contact with new editorials, specially if you are not from America or Europe. For me being peruvian, it was a big opportunity to make books for international clients.
Social media is another great way to get new clients. If you find your niche and start sharing your work, people will try to contact you for projects, commissions or wanting to buy your products.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think non-creatives think creative people are just free spirited beings who rely only in inspiration and we just go with the flow. And yes, we are kind of like that in some aspects, but we are also super organized and structured. Specially if you are doing freelance work and you are your own boss, you have to take care of the fun creative stuff but also the “boring” stuff like taxes, contracts, deadlines, management, etc.
