We were lucky to catch up with Nura Rachelle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nura, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
I imagine most people in my industry (astrology) disagree with any “one size fits all” answers about astrological happenings, or birth charts. I know for myself, when I first came to a astrology, the part of me that wanted neat, clean, “right” answers was a bit dissatisfied at how many interpretations there were for the same planetary position.
For example, a Moon in Aquarius could be interpreted as cold, distant and detached, while another would emphasize the focus on innovation and focus on humanitarian causes. Another would bring in the theme of the “rebel”, and yet another would make an associated with the Ayurvedic physical constitution of being “highly vata”, contributing to Aquarians being alien space-cases with no sense of grounding.
Of course, after 20 years of rigorous study of ancient texts, and most importantly, the study of actual people through giving countless readings and asking questions, I’ve come to learn that all of these interpretations can be true, and there’s a wide range of expression. More so, they are all incomplete, and that’s the most valuable aspect of this argument.
It’s said that “there are as many ‘astrologies’ as there are astrologers,” according to my friend and colleague Gemini Brett.
Truly, everyone that looks at any kind of astrological chart is actually interpreting the stars through their own distinct relationship with the planets and their own philosophy of life. There are often themes and patterns that each astrologer will similarly point out, but each person has their own way of letting the charts speak to them.
Most importantly, there is no way to see a person’s “level of consciousness” or “self-awareness” in a chart. This emphasizes the important fact that there’s no way to see if someone is operating from a high or low sense of self awareness, and that greatly influences how each archetype will play out. There is no “bad” archetypes, or even fully incompatible ones. It’s a big part of my mission to help my clients realize that there is nothing “bad” about them or their charts. It’s all about how we are resourced, and how we can learn to trust ourselves and what we’ve been given.
Nura, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my own journey with astrology as a teenager, doing readings for myself, my friends and (very reluctantly) my family. It started as a way for me to really understand the “why” of feeling so different than those around me.
I started to slowly share my work with friends who validated my readings, and who suggested I started doing readings for money, and that’s where my business took off in my early 20s. It was not my original plan to own a business, but now I can’t imagine it being any other way after 12 years of professional work as an astrologer.
I thought my path was to be a university professor in the humanities or working in some greater capacity in the field of creative writing (I majored in English Lit for one of me degrees), psychology, therapy, or deeper into the wellness industry. I worked as a therapeutic behavior coach, in social work, and in schools as a teacher and mentor while astrology was still on “the side”. I found yoga and herbalism around the same time I found astrology, and continue to bring yogic wellness principles into my work.
Astrology has allowed me to use all of these different aspects of my journey to get to help people by drawing from all my different interests, without having to choose only one (this is ideal for anyone with strong mutable energy in their chart). Astrology has been a doorway for so many people to learn more about their personal path to health, confidence and self-love.
I work with women (99%) who are on a journey of upleveling creative confidence, and who are also often multi-modal in their approach, wearing many different hats. Many of my clients are part-time or full-time business owners, moms, caregivers, or trying to really put their creative work out into the world in some more meaningful way. I am always emphasizing how there is no “one-size-fits-all” method to living your best life and honoring your soul’s potential and purpose, but it’s about finding the purpose and pathway illuminated by your own soul blueprint.
The best way to work with me is through my Rebel Reborn 1:1 Coaching program. This is for the women ready to take bold action on upleveling their creative confidence and sharing their work and legacy out in the world.
Smaller bite size ways to connect are through individual readings (which focus on natal, transit and astrology for families, relationships, wellness, business, stress-management, etc), as well as my Foundations of Astrologer course for those who want to learn how to read charts for themselves or use it in their own work. I love all the inspiring women I get to work with! It’s such a high honor to do this work.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
It’s all about authenticity, and maintaining healthy relationships with others in my field. Even though I do have a presence on social media, the majority of people find me through word of mouth, summits and collaborative connections, like interviews on Astrology Hub, hosted by Amanda ‘Pua’ Walsh, and notable events like Jenner Linden’s yearly ReWilding summits.
My people find my monthly transit videos on YouTube or sign up for my free Cosmic Creativity Guides course that I have on my website, and realize they’re in for the soul journey of a lifetime!
My biggest takeaway from how my clients find me is for me to keep being myself and trusting that my message will find the people its meant for. I care so deeply about lifting up the work of other women as well, and I really do find that that approach has been the most uplifting for my own work as well. Collaboration over competition!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
So many! I have an Aquarius moon and I swear my alter-ego is a cosmic librarian. There is nothing more satisfying to me than being able to share a resource of life-changing information with someone who is ready to receive it.
The book Unbound: A Woman’s Guide to Power by Kasia Urbaniak has been a favorite to guide so many women to, especially anyone on a journey of learning to speak up and assertively receive what is rightfully theirs. This is a guide to power as the title suggests, but ultimately it’s about mastering a “clear ask”, which is everything in business and communication with clients and colleagues. This book has changed my life, and has helped me expand into my wholeness with courage, which absolutely has shifted my way of operating in my business.
I’m also a huge fan of Simone Seol’s approach to marketing, even though she’s transformed a lot in her wording and no longer calls herself a business coach or marketer. Her mailing list and newsletters are phenomenal. For her, it’s about community care, which I strongly agree with in every possible way. It’s about sharing from a joyful place of authentic overflow, rather than needing to manipulate anyone into thinking they need to buy my courses or do readings or coaching with me. It’s about letting people know how I can genuinely help them, by really listening to them and learning about how I can serve their needs.
A book I learned about through Simone’s community is Regenerative Business: How to Align Your Business with Nature for More Abundance, Fulfillment, and Impact by Sam Garcia. Literally in her introduction she calls us “spiritual weirdo entrepreneurs and creatives who know the power of magic” out, so I knew she was talking to me, and probably you if you’re reading this. This book put words to so much of how I was feeling and thinking in my work in the world, especially around letting go of the limiting structures in my business that are unnecessary and that don’t really work anyway. It’s about getting more comfortable with the cycles of life and death in my business, and trusting the power of consciously aligning with cyclical awareness which is everything for me as an astrologer.
