Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nubia Ali. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nubia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a young girl, I always felt alone. I was raised by a single mother with no siblings in the home; so that drove me to rely on my creativity and intuition. I later also learned that developing an effective method of protecting myself was necessary because there have been many times in my life where I felt vulnerable and helpless. With time and wisdom, I now understand that an act as simple as channeling energy kills two birds with one stone; because it also protects said energy and preserves my creativity. Spending lots of time with yourself cultivates a more intimate relationship with your own emotions and my ability to express those emotions is why I’m here. My ultimate mission is to serve as a light to help others see themselves better by being a light for myself. I feel the best way to guide/positively influence others is to actually BE the living, breathing, tangible example.
Nubia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Nubia and I am a digital creator, influencer and writer. I create fashion, beauty and lifestyle content but I am also set to publish a book of poetry this spring. Writing is my first love language and I am now ready to share that with others that love the art of writing and poetry. My writing is raw emotion explained in the most eloquent manner. I’ve been writing since adolescence and it’s been the most consistent tool in my life.
My most proud accomplishment so far is being a mom and wife because those are the toughest jobs in the world. I have a different level of respect for women that are family oriented and dedicated mothers, it’s truly a blessing yet not an easy dynamic to maintain.
I am active on most social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, Pinterest, LTK and Benable). I intend to start my YouTube journey soon so follow me on Instagram because I post there the most.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
If you are a loved one of a creative, being supportive and articulating that support is so vital. Even if you are not necessarily into the type of art they make, compliment their dedication. Take a moment to appreciate the artist even if you don’t appreciate the art. It goes a long way.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
In grad school, I took a course called “Literary Criticism,” (or like English majors refer to it “Lit Crit”) and we read this short novel by French author Claire de Duras called “Ourika”. The story of this amazing novel changed my perspective of self-identity what it truly means to have real agency in this western world. It impacted me so much that when I taught World Literature to my college students a few years ago, I also introduced this novel to them. “Ourika” is one of those books that resonates because the dilemma that plagued the protagonist’s mind is a dilemma that exists today. It is a very quick read, yet super impactful. It sparked an ambition within me to create my own lane in this life.
