We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nub. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nub below.
Nub, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
In 2020, almost three years deep into Nub. We had begun recording our debut album Touch the Nub, and we had completed three songs at this point. That’s when the shutdown hit, we were still able to complete the album, while dealing with extraordinary unforeseen social circumstances.
We pulled long sessions, typically starting around 9am and leaving at 3am. We completed it in about two weeks of sessions.
Touch the Nub an insane testament to an even more insane time.
Almost for years later, we somehow are feeling an even stronger determination and creative drive working on our second album. Which we are currently in the studio on.
Nub, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Nub was conceived where all great bands have been, in the electronics dept at Target. Now that two thirds of the band have fired from the same Target, and six years have past, we have done a lot of cool things that we are proud of.
We started with renting a janky dance hall to host our first gig, to playing on a roof inside of a horse training arena.
Over time we kept meeting cool people, other artists, and we all starting playing shows together. At that point the ball was rollin’
We feel that we create music that we want to listen to. Our writing process is relatively unconstrained and each song is kind of its own project, regardless of anything we have made prior. In fact really the only rule we seem to have is don’t repeat the same idea twice. If something sounds too similar to another one of our songs, we go back to the drawing board and rebuild.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
So here at Nub HQ, we actually really enjoy creative promotion. We use it as an opportunity to add more lore and cannon to the weird world of art that revolves round Nub. Everything we due typically has comedy and humor deep rooted in it, and creating promos is a great way to express to potential new fans. If it makes us laugh, we’ll release it.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Other than world domination, it’s to continue making art we are proud of. As long as everything we are making sounds fresh, and we are continuing to grow and change as artists, we still have more we can do… but mostly it’s the world domination
