We were lucky to catch up with Nova Maddux recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nova, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
Remote work is crucial to my business, and is one of my favorite parts about doing what I do professionally. During Covid, I had to really rethink my approach of offering only in person Bone Reading sessions to my clients, for both my safety and theirs. So, like others in my industry I turned to resources such as Zoom, Skype, and Facetime to offer the services I had been doing in a safer, more physically distanced capacity. I love offering my remote Bone Readings because I am still able to do the exact same thing as in person, and my clients get to stay in the comfort of wherever they would like or choose to be.
I feel one of the biggest, and most beneficial aspects of remote work would be the ability to reach clients I may not have been able to reach out to before to offer my services and complete Bone Reading Sessions. Instead of just offering my services locally, I am able to have an outreach to clients all over not just the United States, but the world!

Nova, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Greetings! My name is Nova Maddux, AKA Bone Baby!
I am a third generation Psychic, Medium, and Reiki Master Teacher, who has an affinity for bones, crystals and trinkets. I have been working as a professional Psychic Medium, with an variety of divination offerings in services ranging from Bone Readings, Tarot & Oracle, Crystal Balls, and so much more.
Having been born into a family of practicing Psychics, and mediums, I feel exceptionally blessed. Not only was I allowed to understand and not fear my gifts of spirit communication using my senses from a very early age, I was also blessed to be able to find a path that fit my lifestyle and allowed me to feel both seen, and heard by those around me.
My passion, and my favorite resource that I offer to my client would be my specialty offerings which is Bone Readings. My particular reading style in which my mentors have guided and taught my from is based off traditional teachings of Indigenous Americans, Southern Hoodoo & African traditions which have only been passed down through verbal communication. Understanding the history, and traditional meanings is a deeply personal aspect of what I do, not only to be respectful to those who have done this prior to me, but to also be respectful of the spiritual practices of other cultures and communities that have used this form of divination for ages before me.
When you receive a reading from me, I am always honest and earnest in both my messages I deliver as well as the way the information is delivered to each client. Every client is unique, right? So, what I do is offer divination in a safe, inclusive, friendly and respectful space so every client receives the time, and attention they deserve. As a gay man, I find it to be crucial to offer inclusivity, especially to communities who oft times find themselves being marginalized, misunderstood and even potentially feeling unsafe in certain environments. Over the past decade, I’ve strived to be able to curate a unique, and dynamic atmosphere for my clients to rely on, especially during moments of strife; as I do handle a majority of my clients who come to me for understandings of tough life moments, difficult and/or troubling experiences they have or will go through.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
The funny thing is I didn’t plan on doing this as a profession, it was more of a fun thing to do on the side for friends, and acquaintances. I was originally an Internationally published, global makeup artist for TV, Magazines, and major runway shows. I did that for a decade, until I found myself becoming increasingly unhappy mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. The long, sometimes 14 hour days, on top of hours of traveling became draining and left me desiring more.
I started offering divination services as a true side hustle as I ultimately decided to start to retire from my makeup career. It was an aha moment, since I had spent my life being raised around, and spending a good portion of my time around people whom were already professional psychics, mediums and witches as I matured, and grew into a more conscious, spiritually aware human being. It was almost as if knowing that I could provide and help guide others was what I needed to feel more complete. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, and I felt and saw the empowerment not only with myself but with my clients as I continued to deliver accurate, and honest answers for the variety of situations others were going through.
Ultimately, it came to a point where I found myself having fully removed myself from the world of beauty, and fell deeply in love with the spiritual world in all of its many aspects. I find nothing more rewarding than being able to help guide, provide understanding and even divine messages from loved ones who have crossed over to the ones who need it the most.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I find that the biggest key component to my reputation in the world of spirituality would be my ability to always commit to honesty, as well as knowing how to deliver certain messages that may be difficult to relay to my clients. Muddling, or allowing one to hold back from the hard truths that can be often times overwhelming, or harder to address topics only differentiates between a novice and professional. It is not always about what is said, but how it is said that can make the difference between day and night when providing clients with the truth they have come to expect from me during our private sessions.
