We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nova Levante a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nova, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.

The court system, as a whole, is very slow to change on most matters. Given this, many attorneys, myself included, were surprised when they transitioned to Zoom hearings during COVID – surprised, but pleased. It was a major step in modernizing the court and increasing its efficiency. At Leo Law, we understand that technology is the key to streamlining the legal process, and may well prove to be future of court hearings. Our team includes not just attorneys and administrators, but skilled coders and programmers, as well. We make it a priority to remain at the forefront of innovation, and we believe that our technological savvy is a great part of what sets us apart from other law firms. By leveraging the most up-to-date legal technology tools and software, we are able to translate time and money saved into increased affordability for our clients.

Nova, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Nova Levante. I am the founder of Leo Law, and I live in Ohio with my husband and our three beloved pets. I received my Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2019, after which I worked at Shur Law for two years. I consider myself a highly self-motivated and driven individual, and while the idea of starting my own business always appealed to me, it took the experience I gained at my previous law firm to make it possible. Our Leo Law attorneys practice family, estate, and bankruptcy law – meaning we handle things like divorces, dissolutions, custody battles, protection orders, wills, trusts, and more.
At Leo Law, we recognize that what we do would not be possible without our clients, so we always strive to put them first and make things as smooth as possible for them. In our line of work, we often help clients who are already experiencing difficult times – from divorces to bankruptcy to loss of a loved one – and we believe that dealing with the legal process should not add undue additional hardship to their situations. We strive to always take a proactive approach to law to give each of our clients the best possible outcome, and we want each of our clients to know and feel that we have their best interests at heart.

Any advice for managing a team?

It’s all about making sure your employees know they’re valued. We do monthly check-ins with our employees to check up on their job satisfaction, work-life balance, and overall well being. We take into account anything going on in their personal lives, and we try to accommodate that as much as possible. As a small team, it is easy to maintain the closeness we enjoy at Leo Law, which is something we cherish. We try to make certain all our employees are happy with the work environment and the management, and we take their feedback into serious consideration whenever they offer it. We also offer as many employee benefits as we are financially able – after all, what’s a business without its employees?

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Social media presence, online activity, and website aesthetic have all helped to boost our clientele. We have also caught a few eyes without semiannual newsletter. However, our number one platform for bringing in new clients is Google. We utilize Google ads, which pop up everywhere! They drastically increase our visibility, which not only brings in more initial consults, but results in a higher retention rate on our part.
