We were lucky to catch up with Nova Jay recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nova , thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first dollar I ever earned as a creative was I think my second real photoshoot. I was just starting out and i was working with a jewelry company. I honestly can’t even remember what they paid me but I know it was just a couple hundred. I remember feeling so proud and excited to be making money from doing something I love and so soon at that. I still have that same feeling of gratitude today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a published model and visual artist. I started originally as just a visual artist, painting. After University I was asked to participate in a photo shoot one day as a model despite having no prior experience or real interest. I took the chance and did the photoshoot and the rest was history.
How did you build your audience on social media?
So I’m more popular on tiktok but really what helped me build my presence was being authentic. I act 100% the same on social media as I do in real life. Don’t get caught up trying to fit into professionalism or sound and be like other more popular artists and influencers. We have plenty of them.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to create something that will outlive me. The whole point of being an artist is creating something that says you were here, long after you’re gone. That’s the goal.
