We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Noureen Wadhvania a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Noureen, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.

I’ll start with quotes that I strongly stand by:

“Nothing worth having come easy”- Roosevelt.

“If there’s the slightest chance of getting something that will make you happy, risk it. Life is too short & happiness is too rare.”

I’ve taken many risks in life in fact we all do on daily basis.

However, my biggest Risk perhaps let’s say my biggest failure in life turned out to be my biggest blessing. You wonder how?
Here’s the back story.

At one point in my life, I lost everything in the year 2018. That year staggered me on every level. By everything, I mean professionally & personally. I could not comprehend what and how I was led to this where I had hit the rock bottom. I could not fathom the timing or the situation. My only option was to either bow down to certain unfair situations & just go with the flow. No one had my back except myself and my family. 

I had days let’s say few hours to make that decision as to stay back or to risk it all & take a leap of faith. I could not withhold my emotions at that moment. Of course, I chose the path of uncertainty and the unknown. Although, my mind was in favor of going with the flow! So, I take a risk and chose to start everything from scratch. I knew that fact that people can never take away your talent and education from you no matter what, and that’s what matters to keep moving ahead in life. If you believe in yourself and have resilience and do not give up, you can be successful.

It was about time to make some pragmatic decisions. I reach out to 2 wonderful women in my life Michelle Beckles and Khadija DeShong & I propose – “Hey I know you have a salon & would you mind or be down to rent out a small space or a chair in your salon?”
Mind you they were my clients in the past of course they were baffled as to why would I propose such!
So, after hearing my story they said “Noureen it would be a pleasure to have to work at our space” when would you like to come work?
I said tomorrow!!
And that’s when everything changed for me.
I embarked upon the first idea that came to mind & that idea led me to another idea and that’s when my journey began to be an entrepreneur and self-made woman in business. 
I say always Trust the choice of what you want in life or idea even if you can’t defend it with logic. As Steve Jobs says “You cannot connect dots looking forward you can only connect looking backward”

My biggest risk was to open my own business in the middle of the pandemic! That’s right I opened my first business & chose to fly solo right when everything was shutting down. The unknowns & uncertainty were at their peak. When everyone tried to save every penny they earned, I invested every penny I had and additional loans to start this business.
And let me tell you that was one of the BEST decisions of my life. Let’s say the biggest risk of my life. So, ladies & gentlemen never be afraid to take that risk that one small step that can lead you to something extraordinary. So, I said RISK FORWARD……!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

Success is a journey & not a destination. The biggest pivotal moment in my life/career was when I summon my courage and choose the uncertain path. I choose to start my business from scratch, spending all my savings to build this place, which was shut down for 8 months during the pandemic.

Frustrations and desire to give up every moment, losing some people along the way, at the point also losing myself with all the uncertainties.

Indeed, that journey consists of sleepless nights, and a bucket full of tears also (Ice cream).
Now when I look back & connect dots every piece of the puzzle fits perfectly.

However, this also made me who I’m today, this journey united me with my true self, and my purpose was revealed to me. And most importantly I’ve never felt this connected to God ever. meditation, prayers came through. It felt like God was holding my hand & helping me walk through this tough/dark path. Manifesting is REAL!

So, I said Never be afraid to take that risk in life. Go & grow through everything & anything life throws at you. Pick up those Bricks & build an empire. If you’re ever going to believe in something or someone, I suggest believing in yourself & and that the world is yours.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

CUSTOMERS! I cannot emphasize enough how grateful I’m towards each & every single client of mine. I wouldn’t be here or who I’m if it wasn’t for my loyal clients.

I remember at my downfall sitting in a corner crying my emotions out & a client walks in & she said “Noureen don’t worry about losing a business or a place. We came to YOU not the business or the property. We will come & support you whenever you go.”
That changed the game.

So, I advise every entrepreneur out there or anyone wanting to open up a business in any industry to focus on your product, your service & customer care & success is yours.

Never TAKE ANY client for granted because they are your BUSINESS. Not the Standing salon or building. Any business without loyal clients is just a building IMO!

Focus on providing the best of everything you got. And you will never have to worry about going out of business. Success will forever be yours.
