We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Notorio 718 a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Notorio thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
For me, being an artist and a creative are intrinsically linked. As a music artist, I write my own songs and occasionally co-produce my records, which allows my creativity to flourish within my artistry. I strive to live without regrets because I cherish the person I have become. While I do reflect from time to time, I predominantly focus on looking ahead and embracing the future.

Notorio, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I reside in Sweden, Europe, where music is an integral part of my life. I immerse myself in various genres, which in turn influence the music I create. My journey into music began as a means of escape. Growing up in the Bronx, NY, life was far from easy, but music, particularly hip-hop, became my therapy and a way to articulate my experiences. I produce a wide range of music, from hip-hop to reggaeton. Currently, I am focusing more on reggaeton and Spanish-based music, which I find incredibly enjoyable and fun.
What distinguishes me is my diverse background; having lived in three different countries and traveled extensively, I have been exposed to a multitude of influences that fuel my creativity. In my personal life, I am most proud of my brothers. Musically, my proudest moment was performing in Europe with my brother, Mr. Dimelo. Regardless of the challenges life presents, I am determined to persevere. Losing sight of my goals is not an option.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe the best way to support artists in today’s market is by giving new artists a chance. When you come across a song by a new artist, especially on social media, take a few seconds to listen. There is an abundance of great music that isn’t mainstream. Additionally, we need better legislation to ensure that streaming platforms pay music artists fair or improved wages. Looking ahead, I think AI will dominate the music market if artists feel they cannot make a decent living from their creativity.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Early in my career, I wish I had taken the time to learn about the music business. It would have saved me a lot of headaches and heartbreaks. Everyone who makes music should, at the very least, understand how Music Publishing and Performing Rights Organizations operate. They should also learn what ISRC and ISWC codes are and how they work.
