Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Norreal Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Norreal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I grew up in a Jamaican household. It was full of spices, exquisite food, vibrant music, and herbs. So, as I blossomed into a young woman, herbal remedies became a part of my everyday ritual. It was 2021 and my boyfriend at the time had terrible eczema. He tried over the counter medicine, prescribed medicine, and home remedies. But nothing permanently removed his eczema. I decided to do some research on different topicals he could use to cure the eczema. After 1 month of research, gathering supplies, and testing products. I came up with a powerful topical by mixing shea, coconut oil, and infusing essential oils into a blender. It created a butter like consistency. I was amazed, I have never used shea butter that actually felt like butter! I gave him my creation and watched him use it for the first time. ” Beans, this is amazing! This stuff feels like butter!” He smiled.
” Ok Bean’s Buttas” he said. “Beans Butas? Ha-ha very funny ” I said. After two weeks of use, his Eczema was gone! I was so proud, excited, speechless even! I couldn’t believe I cured this skin condition. The same condition that I had seen so many black people have when I grew up. I decided then that I was going to bottle this stuff up! So, I started my journey. The first step I took was naming my business, Bean’s Buttas. This name represents my first win as a business owner, where I came from, and the pure joy it is to heal those around me with my creations. After, I continued to research herbal remedies for everyday skin lack. Such as, dryness, moisture retention, brightening, stress relief, and more. I paired each product with a special affirmation that merges the mind, body and spirit to commit to healthy and beautiful skin.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Peace and blessings. I am Norreal the creator of Bean’s Buttas LLC. Growing up in a women led Jamaican household, skin care was an important part of our routine. As I grew into a spiritual woman my journey led me on the path of exploring holistic health. During my research I have learned that we have been led astray from our ancestral ways of healing and have adapted heavily chemical enhanced ways of beauty. My passion is to bring ancestral healing back to skin care and awaken the divine light that is our birth right. By way of all natural products and affirmations devoted to speaking life into your skin. I am proud of the consistency of my products. It is true to its form. Many times, whipped shea butter can get so airy that you are left with little to no product. My products provide a light but dense butter consistency that melts on your skin from your body heat. A little goes a long way with Bean’s Buttas!
I provide natural scrubs, shea butter, oat baths, room sprays, and face sprays. Each product is delicately crafted to represent the essence of natural skin care.
My top three products are Lavender Butta, Eczema Butta, and Divine Light Butta!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy of growing your clientele is word of mouth, having amazing products, and being a genuine person. Word of mouth is one of the most effective and fastest ways to expand a business. Think about it, when you find a product, you really enjoy, you want to share it. It is a domino effect from there. Having products that are actually great is an easy and definite way to get and keep clients.
If you are a genuine soul that comes to people with humility, empathy, and honesty; you are bound to find clientele that will love and support you.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I had to unlearn thus far was you are one title. That is not true, you are allowed to be multiple things at once. I am a full-time teacher, but I am also a business owner, painter, lover of nature, skater, reader, workout enthusiast , and so much more. You can be more than one thing in this life, and if you bind yourself to one title you limit yourself. Be as many things as your heart desires. But do it smart, and with true intention.
