We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Norma Coufal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Norma below.
Norma, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I offer salon services vía curbside. Whether it’s pulling up to venues for wedding hair/makeup, mature clients that don’t drive, clients that work remotely from home, or just popping into community festivals. I make it super convenient to come in a relaxed environment and enjoy those times being pampered.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I have been in the beauty industry for 18 plus years. I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist since the age of 9. My experience in the salon setting was that I wanted to cater to my clients in a more relaxed way of being able to come into an establishment and not worry about being interrupted as other stylists work led on their clients and having to listen to others conversations. I work by appointment only so that clients have one on one time with me without feeling rushed through their time of relaxation. If a client wants to come in and chat throughout the entire appointment or simply just want to come in and enjoy themselves in silence like bringing their laptop to work in, putting in earbuds, or simply napping in my chair. It’s that cozy in my airstream salon.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I highly believe the best form of gaining new clientele is how you present yourself both at work and on your day off. Dress the part. I always try to look out together and have business cards on hand. Smile at everyone you come in contact with. Always be approachable in a professional manner.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to re-strategize on how to reinvent my career in the beauty industry. I’ve now worked in three types of salon settings and feel like I’ve found my perfect fit not only for myself but especially my clients.
