We recently connected with Norma Camero Reno and have shared our conversation below.
Norma, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
While I was taking my doctorate degree in international public law – human rights I had the opportunity to meet incredible people doing good things for their community especially for women and young girls. I felt attracted to them immediately since my fight has always been to respect human rights and also fighting domestic violence. I am at the end of finishing my studies and I get more involved with organizations which work so hard to raise gender equality and defend all human rights
Norma, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been studying all my life about law and human rights. I have helped found non profit organizations and I have been member of some of them always helping my community especially women and young girls trying to elevate and empoderate them so they can fight for their rights. My work has always been volunteer and charity organizations and my motto is “helping people one person at a time”. The most proud of I have felt is seeing those people I have helped succeed in whatever they do. I consider myself an honest person who likes to open doors for others, always taking the extra mile for justice and human rights. I am no better than anybody but I consider myself “a good person” always willing to learn and use that knowledge to help other achieve their dreams
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I had a very hard childhood, a home with a single mother and 3 children plus 5 more she raised from other families. Good was scarce and we didn’t have much but the desire to learn and get a better life. My neighborhood was a very dangerous place with criminals, Drug dealers and prostitution and in spite of that we came out to be successful in life. My childhood was an inspiration for my hood “from shadows to light, chapters of my life”. I am a Venezuelan attorney with 3 Masters in International Law and Business Law, another Master is International Penal Law and another one in international Humanitarian Law and I am just finishing my doctorate degree in Inpernstilnal Public Law and Human Rights
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I do not work so the type of clients are people from my community who need help from finding a doctor to talk to an attorney to get a hug because they have too many problems. My best source is the word of mouth because in my community many people know me and trust me
