We were lucky to catch up with Nori Mcneal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nori, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is accomplishing goals that you set for yourself. I believe the most successful people have a unrelenting desire to constantly complete goal after goal. They never become stagnant or overzealous because of one win or achievement they continue to make the goal bigger or higher. At the beginning of my career as a Nail tech and artist. It was difficult building clientele because it was something new for me and most pple go to pple they trust. Soo many times i questioned should i stop and get a 9-5, afraid that it may not work out. But i didnt and i couldnt. I knew that if i continued stayed focused and market myself i could sustain my business and build my brand so thats what i did. And here we are.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started doing nails around 5-6 yrs ago. I just got fired from my job. My friend at the time knew how creative i was and she suggested that we go to nail school. I had no other plans at the time so i agreed. We went to check out the school the next week. After that ive just been building my name and my brand brick by brick. I am most proud of the commitment that i have put into my business and watching it start from a seed and has just grown. Not only am i a nail artist, i have created a safe space for my clients that allows me to be a therapist, a comedian, a sound board, and motivational speaker. Ive built a community of pple from different walks of life all bringing in different perspectives, cultures and ideas together. Where we all learn and teach eachother things that help us to reach our common goals.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic all the businesses were closed. Ive always wanted to design my own clothing brand since highschool. Thats when i founded Cold World apparel. Its a black owned of course. Streetwear brand that im building that represents resilience and endurance. Housing everything from tshirts, bubble jackets and outerwear to leather goods such as backpacks, duffle bags and even keychains. I wanted to create luxury fashion house but make it an affordable streetwear brand.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency and reliability. All of my customers can gurantee that ill always do my best, be where i need to be, not ever cancel, and always give them fair pricing. Doing this 5 days a week. Having a reliable location but also adhering to whatever requirements are needed.
