We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noree Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noree below.
Noree, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I do wish that I could have commenced my creative career earlier on. I remember going to the arts and crafts store with my mom when I was around the ages of five and ten years old. So, at that time, it was all fun that brought so much freedom and joy to me not knowing that in the future creativity would also become part of my self discovery and healing journey from childhood and adult traumas. I believe if I would have begun sooner, I may not have understood the time and patience I needed for the process. However, with the correct guidance and support, I believe my life experiences would have changed if I started earlier because creativity inspires me to travel. Traveling gives you insight of not just yourself but the world and people around you. It’s very refreshing!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My services include, event planning, DIY crafts and I also create beautiful, tasty chocolate covered strawberries. As I stated previously, crafts were first introduced to me by my mom when I was around the age of five years old. She would take me to arts and crafts stores often where I was able to get what I wanted then take it home to create. I will never forget when I created a dollhouse out of cardboard boxes. Wish I had a picture but it stays deep in my heart because that was probably the biggest project I ever worked on as a child when I was eleven years old and it encouraged me to continue up to this point in my life. My business is small. So, I don’t really run into many problems with my clients. More so me critiquing my own work. However, when I am not able to provide exactly what my clients are looking for, we come up with a new idea that works. What sets me apart from others is simple! It’s me! To understand and appreciate myself and fully understand that I am not like anyone else, nor do I have the same work ethic, vision, creative mind, discipline, etc. That’s what sets me apart. And that is okay. The world would be so boring if we all thought the same, styled the same, created the same and so forth. We must understand that we are all different and we provide different services to different audiences and for different reasons and certain times. Embrace it!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to bring happiness, self-discovery, healing and peace for anyone who doesn’t know how to find it within themselves or just simply needs a push. I know how difficult that can be. And to also encourage anyone to never give up no matter the obstacles. I really just wanna see people happy. My projects always bring light to clients and I thrive from that.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes! Definitely! There is a book titled, “Bamboozled by Jesus” by one of my favorite actresses and now author, Yvonne Orji. This book is filled with inspiration, laughs, tears, lessons, encouragement and so much more. I literally feel like she’s my sister after reading the book.
