We recently connected with Chaplain Noraliz Maysonet Ortiz, DDiv and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Noraliz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
This was passed down from generation to generation. Our family lacked nothing. Even when my father was down-range in wartime, we had all we needed; to include the expectation that he would return home unharmed. There were fervent prayers for many nights, until his safe return. This upbringing, rooted in Christ, gave me all the tools I use and need today.
More recently, I married a man who had travelled the world byway his military career, however, did not have the same Christ foundation. The fragmented immigrant, from another military force, that I married, carried a great burden, and I, his wife, took on those burdens and became a broken woman with a focus on healing and helping as many as I could, including him. I had greater vision for us, individually and as a couple, than what he did. A marriage that didn’t last long gave me a glimpse into what Jesus’ love for the nations meant. That you need not to receive love in return to love like Jesus, and from afar. Although he broke many of his vows, I decided to keep my vows to God, my promises to him, and my respect to self. During the three-year divorce process, and in a serious, last attempt to restore the marriage, I surprised him with a long-time dream. The business plan I had generated years earlier finally became a registered family business. He despised me for it and all my efforts. The more I treated him with love, the worse the situation became. It was because of the increase in abuse and his refusal to receive help that I made the hardest decision a wife in love can make. In compassion and because our Lord had me lean more and more on Him, I surrendered in obedience. This spiritual battle was an all-inclusive, placed on the cross never to be picked up and as I walked away from it all, I realized this victory saved my children and me.Wait! I’m not done, because now, I, too have risen…to apply all I learned to helping others break the crazy cycle in their life. Come to Christ. Have true freedom in His love and peace. In my healing I found to concern myself less with me and be more about His business for people who really wanted a change or a chance for change. The result was amazing…
Noraliz, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Carvajal&Carvajal est.2018, dba ARIZE 360|365, is owned and operated by me; a service-disabled veteran. It’s mobile notary, business ministry that focuses on community development and helping veterans, community partners, and abused persons heal and elevate their lives and their faith walk; and focuses on providing services that delineates what resources are needed to achieve the goal presented by the client.
What sets this company apart from the rest is that the services are free (donations are accepted), apart from the notary signature, stamp, and seal charge of 10 dollars. That’s it.
It’s a one-stop-shop, for all things notary and chaplaincy. Customers are number one priority and call and come in for notary services, for prayer, or for information that can help them or their family’s needs.
Should they choose more of what we offer; there are 4 stages to the 360 process and 2 stages for the 365 process: Spiritual; discipleship and mentorship courses focused on identity, healing and purpose and retreats with affiliate programs that also offer chaplaincy commission and educational credit. Emotional; mental health referral and outdoor recreation program. Physical; partner program focused on air purification, water purification, sleep systems and more. Financial; a workbook course focused on giving first fruits and providing for the family by saving, planning, and stability that leads to true financial health and freedom.
2 stages for the 365 processes: Career or Business Formation; where we help with mock interviews, attire, and resume building for anyone searching for employment or prepare a business plan and follow through with company formations. Testimony: for whomever may choose to pay it forward, there are opportunities for motivational speaking, book publishing, and volunteerism within the community through fundraising and networking events.
We want everyone to feel kindness and have success. To be healed from trauma is hard and no one can do it alone. We are here to help and serve diligently.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is to keep it simple, be mindful, transparent, be authentic. I do not go overboard with marketing and advertising because in order to be a staple in the homes of the community you have to build trust. Trust cannot be bought. Save your money.
Don’t give all your pearls at once, however do help everyone like they’re your family. There’s an element of surprise when a client comes in for, let’s say, help with translating a document. Then, you can also notarize their paperwork and tell them about how to better protect their assets by building an LLC instead of filing an Assumed Name Form, etc. They love that! They ask about what else you can help with and then they tell everyone they love and care for about your company because they’re grateful. Their success becomes your success. Mind you, their failure is also yours, therefore do your due diligence. Transparency is so important because if you leave anything to doubt, they will not come back and ugly news travels faster than good news, right? Be aware of your audience and mindful of their needs. Be authentic with everyone in all their circumstance and yours. Show compassion and still be straight forward about their business or situation. If one thing leads to another, take care of it on the spot. Don’t ask them to come back nor charge them for it. Be completely transparent and honest because their time is a as precious as yours. Don’t waste it.
