We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noorin Gulamgaus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noorin below.
Alright, Noorin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I recently worked on a feature film that will be coming out very soon. It’s called Afghan Dreamers and it’s directed by Academy Award winner Bill Guttentag. We shot it in the fall/winter of 2022 and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had as an actor. I’m very proud of what we made because everything about it is meaningful. The film is based on a true story and I got to play a real person for the first time. The film was cast out of the Los Angeles but all the actors were hailing from different parts of the world. Some from Los Angeles, others from UK and I was the only Canadian. We shot the film in Marrakech and Budapest. Two beautiful places in the world. I consider myself lucky to have worked on this film and met everyone who worked on this great project. I am excited for this film to come out because we need need these type of films that is diverse, original and rule breaking.

Noorin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
First and foremost I consider myself an artist but actor is more appropriate for a better understanding. I grew up in Toronto, Canada and fell in love with acting around the age of 12. But I had no one to rely on or ask for advice, so I took things in my own hands and started to surf the web. I ended up at an acting studio and slowly began to get an idea of how the industry worked, simply by asking around. Soon after, I got a featuring part in the RoboCop remake, which was quite eye opening and gave me a sense of assurance that I could do this, if I put my mind to it. I ended up switching schools and attending a performing arts high school and fell in love with theatre. One thing led to another, and my whole life evolved around acting and performing. I wanted to cut my teeth is this work and I made sure to find the right people and environment to grow consistently. I ended up going to theatre school but was cut short because I booked a project overseas, which I’m grateful for.
My goal has always been to tell stories of people who are voiceless and give other upcoming artists the assurance that I didn’t have to follow their dreams and passions. I grew up not having someone to look up to and it was hard believing that this is something I could do. Thats why I feel it’s important for me to take the challenge to be that for others.
I would love to continue doing tv and film projects but once in a while I would love to spice it up with theatre work. I believe versatility is indication of how great you are and that is something I strive for.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love books! I wish I grew up reading them as a kid. I’ve realized now the importance of books, whether fictional or non-fictional. Two of favourite books on acting are The Intent to Live by Larry Moss and Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen. They’re both very similar but the one by Larry Moss is more modern and practical. And then a self care book that I think everyone should read is The Four Agreements. Lastly, a fictional book that is great is The Alchemist. These are some of my favourite books. I recommend them to anyone.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s liberating. I used to think that to be any type of an artist, you needed a blueprint, but it’s not true. There is no blueprint, I repeat there is no blueprint. And that’s the beauty of being an artist, it comes from within. If you have a reservoir of imagination, emotions, taste and passion, then you can do great things as an artist. I also believe the world is heading more towards including artists in the conversation, which is great.
